The Boston Bruins acquired center Charlie Coyle from the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday night for center Ryan Donato and a conditional fifth-round pick that would become a fourth-round choice if the Bruins win a playoff round.Coyle represents a significant forward upgrade for Boston Youth Matt Duchene Jersey , which has won six in a row to move into second place in the Atlantic Division. The 26-year-old Coyle had 10 goals and 18 assists this season, but no points in his past seven games. Minnesota hasn’t scored in 156 minutes, approaching a franchise record, and has lost nine of 10.“Charlie brings unique qualities to our team — he is an experienced, productive, two-position player with size, skill and speed,” Bruins general manager Don Sweeney said in a statement released by the team. “Charlie will provide the necessary depth in all areas of our game as we continue to battle for a playoff position. Charlie is a player our entire organization believes can help us now and moving forward.”The 22-year-old Donato has been unable to stick in the NHL lineup with the Bruins after joining them late last season. A star for the U.S. at the no-NHL 2018 Olympics Mike Condon Jersey , Donato had three goals and six assists in 34 games with Boston this season and has played 18 games for its American Hockey League affiliate in Providence.“We wish him much success in his NHL career,” Sweeney said. “He is a special young man with a bright future in the league.”Boston was at Vegas on Wednesday night. The Bruins entered the game with six straight victories in an 8-0-3 run. The addition of Coyle figures to enhance Boston’s second-ranked power play, LAS VEGAS (AP) — Phillip Danault was 10 years old when Marc-Andre Fleury made his NHL debut. After getting his first career three-goal game against the 15-year veteran goaltender, it’s understandable why the 25-year-old center for the Montreal Canadiens became uneasy referring to Fleury by his nickname: “Flower.”Danault completed a hat trick late in the third period, Paul Byron scored in overtime and the Canadiens beat the Vegas Golden Knights 4-3 on Saturday.“I call him Flower, I mean, I just hear that’s his name; but Marc-Andre, I think he’s a great goalie Jaycob Megna Jersey Womens , but it was just my time tonight,” said Danault, draped in a fur-lined trench coat after the game. “Obviously he made some big saves, too. It’s a great win for the team overall, too.”Danault entered the game with two goals this season. His third of the game came with 1:25 left in the third period, setting up Byron’s backhand goal 1:59 into OT.“We’ve talked to him about getting a little bit more involved around the net and creating some scoring chances for himself and he did that tonight. It’s gonna be good for his confidence,” Montreal coach Claude Julien said about Danault. “He was mad because the second goal, even the first one against us Ryan Dzingel Jersey , he felt he could have done a better job, and what you like about a player like that is his reaction. He didn’t lose focus, he kept plugging away to get us back in the game. I thought it was a real character game for him as far as being able to chase those challenges that he had tonight.”Carey Price made 23 saves, and the Canadiens swept the season series against Vegas.Well aware of the “Vegas Flu” teams suffered from when visiting the entertainment capital of the world last season, Julien said he gave his team a day off to enjoy Las Vegas’ bright lights after playing in Arizona on Thursday, in order to prepare for the fast-skating Golden Knights.“We needed to be well-rested for today,” Julien said. “I have to show confidence in my players and let them know I know they can handle themselves as well. Hopefully they enjoyed the day in Vegas yesterday. It was a (game) that was important and when you looked at the way we played today, you know they did the right thing yesterday and were ready to play this afternoon.”Montreal Womens Tom Pyatt Jersey , which will play three straight on the road after winter break, is riding a 6-3-2 win streak away from home.“It was probably the best team I’ve seen this year come into our building,” Golden Knights coach Gerard Gallant said. “They played great, they were quick and fast. I didn’t mind our team’s game tonight, but they were a step ahead of us all over the ice.”Vegas ended its six-game home winning streak and dropped to 11-4-1 inside T-Mobile Arena.Brandon Pirri scored twice and Jonathan Marchessault also scored for Vegas. William Karlsson, who leads Vegas with 29 points, had two assists. Fleury, one win shy of his 50th as a Golden Knight , made 43 saves.Pirri has three goals in two games since being recalled from the American Hockey League’s Chicago Wolves on Dec. 19. DENVER (AP) The Dallas Stars reached into the collegiate ranks to find their new head coach. It’s a strategy that’s certainly working out well in Philadelphia. The Stars will hire the University of Denver’s Jim Montgomery as their next coach Kyle Brodziak Jersey Womens , a person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press on Wednesday. Montgomery takes over for Ken Hitchcock, who retired last month and will become a consultant for the Stars. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the hiring had not been announced.Montgomery becomes the second college-to-NHL hire in the past three years, following the Flyers’ Dave Hakstol in 2015. Hakstol was considered one of the premier college coaches at North Dakota before making the switch. The Flyers have gone to the playoffs in two of the three seasons Hakstol has been in charge.Dallas is banking on a similar showing under the 48-year-old Montgomery, who spent five seasons in charge of the Pioneers and led them to a national title in 2016-17. He finished 125-57-26 at a university well known for its hockey and lacrosse programs.Montgomery inherits a Dallas squad led by Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin. The Stars are coming off a season in which they missed the playoffs for the eighth time in 10 seasons. Hitchcock returned for just a season before hanging it up. He’s the only coach to lead the team to a Stanley Cup title. Before his arrival in Denver, Montgomery spent three seasons as the head coach/general manager of the United States Hockey League’s Dubuque Fighting Saints. He also served as an assistant coach at RPI from 2006-10. He started his coaching career as a volunteer coach at Notre Dame in ’05-06.As a player, Montgomery led Maine to a national title in 1993 before embarking on a 12-year pro career that included stops in an assortment of leagues, including parts of six seasons in the NHL. He finished his career by playing one game for the Stars during the `02-03 season.—AP Sports Writer Schuyler Dixon contributed to this report.— LAS VEGAS (AP) — Andrei Vasilevskiy has a knack for shutouts — and then backing them up.Vasilevskiy followed his first shutout of the season by stopping 29 of 31 shots Jakob Silfverberg Jersey , J.T. Miller scored his third goal of the season and the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Vegas Golden Knights 3-2 on Friday. The 24-year-old Russian goaltender, who blanked Colorado on Wednesday, went 6-1-1 last season in games following a shutout.“He’s just a good young goaltender. He was in a zone again tonight, you could see he was just tracking pucks,” Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper said. “Our guys did a good job of letting him see pucks. … If he can see them, he’s usually gonna stop them. He was nominated for the Vezina (Trophy) last year, and that wasn’t by fluke. When we have our breakdowns , he’s been a rock for us. Give Vegas credit, they made a big push, but our goalie was there when we needed him and it’s a big win in a tough spot on the road.”Tyler Johnson and Brayden Point also scored for the Lightning, who have not lost in regulation since their second game of the season, going 6-0-1 over that stretch.Shea Theodore and William Karlsson scored for Vegas, while Marc-Andre Fleury made 20 saves.Ten games into their inaugural season, the Golden Knights were 8-2-0. They didn’t lose their fifth game until Nov. 7. Now Authentic Josh Manson Jersey , the defending Western Conference champions are 4-5-1 and sixth in the Pacific Division.“Every year is a new year, so what you did the year before means absolutely nothing,” Tampa Bay center Steven Stamkos said. “I’m sure if you ask them they’d say the same thing. Every year you have to go out and prove yourself as an individual, and you have to prove yourself as a team. They’re a still a good team over there. You’re not going to start the year with a great record every time. It’s how you grow as a team. They still got the pieces to be an elite team in this league.”One piece that needs to improve for the Golden Knights is the power play. Though it notched a power play goal on Friday, Vegas still has the league’s worst conversion rate with a man advantage, now 3 for 32. Tampa Bay owns the league’s best penalty kill (35 of 37).Johnson put the Lightning on the board early in the first period when he spotted a rebound in front of the net and chipped a shot past Fleury. Ryan Carpenter used the boards to slide a perfect pass to Theodore, who blasted a one-timer through traffic from the blue line and past Vasilevskiy to tie game a couple of minutes later. Later in the first Ondrej Kase Jersey , Stamkos delivered a pass into the slot for Point, who tapped the puck past Fleury.Miller extended the lead to 3-1 early in the second. He was positioned perfectly in front of net when the puck deflected off him and past Fleury for a power-play goal.Vegas outshot the Lightning 13-1 in the third period but came up empty after Karlsson ripped a wrist shot past Vasilevskiy on the glove side for a power-play goal with 18:13 left.“I think there were some chances,” Vegas coach Gerard Gallant said. “We’ve just got to keep executing and work at it.”Tampa Bay blocked 27 shots, including 17 in the third period.“They had a lot of opportunities and they come at you with a lot of speed. It’s tough to contain,” Lightning defenseman Ryan McDonagh said. “I think our best player, for sure, in the third period was (Vasilevskiy). We had to block some shots. We gotta continue to play with a little more assertiveness in the third Rickard Rakell Jersey , especially with the lead.”NOTES: Vegas’ Max Pacioretty exited the game in the first period and did not return. … Theodore’s goal marked Vegas’ first from a defenseman this season. … Vasilevskiy came into the game having allowed just two goals in first periods this season; his .966 first-period save percentage was tops in the NHL. … Stamkos needs one goal to reach 350 for his career. … Miller will reach the 200-point plateau with his next point. … Tampa Bay’s Victor Hedman left in the first period with an undisclosed injury, and Cooper said “there’s a good chance he’s not playing tomorrow” in Arizona. … The Lightning have scored on the power play in four straight games and six of their last seven.UP NEXTLightning: Visit Arizona on Saturday.Golden Knights: Host Ottawa on Sunday.

CHICAGO (AP) When Joe Serpico closes his eyes, he can go right back to that day in 1961.Serpico’s big Italian family gathered for cake and coffee for his 10th birthday. On a table full of presents, there was one unwrapped Wieboldt’s department store box from uncle Jerry ”The Barber” Del Giudice – a pair of game-worn jerseys from Chicago Blackhawks stars Bobby Hull and Glenn Hall – a moment of pure joy that stayed with Serpico forever.”I knew their birthdays, I knew these guys, this was my whole life Aaron Ekblad Jersey , was hockey,” he said, ”and at 10 years old to get a gift coming from the two of them was phenomenal.”Serpico, born and raised in Chicago, grew up, got married and had five children with his wife Linda, four girls and one boy. The jerseys went along for the ride, tucked away for safe keeping. But that changes this weekend, when bidding on the signed Hull jersey comes to an end as part of Heritage Auctions’ Platinum Night Auction.Serpico, 66, wore the Hull jersey when he touched the Stanley Cup a couple years ago – a surprise present from one of his daughters – and something changed.”That was on my bucket list,” he said , ”and I feel like, maybe I could share it with somebody else. I hope it ends up in the right hands. I don’t know. … I’m having a hard time letting it go.”Serpico’s uncle was a colorful character who served as the team barber for decades, becoming friendly with Hull, Hall and several other players. He went to the old Chicago Stadium to cut their hair on Wednesdays, or they would come to one of the family barbershops on the weekend on occasion, creating lines of kids looking for autographs that ran around the block, according to Serpico.Hull and Hall were packing up after the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup in 1961 when Del Guidice mentioned Serpico’s birthday was coming up.”He was down there and he said `Hey, you know in a couple weeks is Joey’s birthday. It’d be nice if I brought him something,’ and Bobby and Glenn threw him a jersey,” Serpico said. ”That’s the story that was given to me.”Hull was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1983, and there is a statue of him outside of the United Center in Chicago. The high-scoring forward played 15 of his 23 seasons with the Blackhawks, but Chris Ivy Evgenii Dadonov Jersey Kids , the director of the sports category for Heritage, said game-worn Hull jerseys from his Chicago days are ”pretty scarce.””I’d say there’s only a handful of them known in the hobby,” he said. ”Now there is some from his other teams. There’s some from the Jets and from Hartford. But the Blackhawks jerseys, there’s not a whole lot.”Heritage analyzed Serpico’s jersey – looking at the numbers, the fonts and other parts of the sweater – and determined it’s from the 1958-59 season, Hull’s second year in the league.”This may be one where his uncle asked either Hull or the equipment manager, you know, Hull said `Hey, I want to give a jersey away to my buddy. Do you have an old one laying around?”’ Ivy said, ”and I suspect that’s how they got a jersey in ’61 that had actually been used a couple years previous.”Decades after Serpico got the jerseys from his beloved uncle, he got each of them signed.Hall asked Serpico to try on his No. 1 sweater one last time, and the Hall of Fame goaltender later sent Serpico a hand-written letter thanking him for being a fan. Hull’s No. 9 was retired by the Blackhawks – like Hall and No. 1 – but the jersey up for auction is No. 16 Youth Jamie McGinn Jersey , which Hull wore for a short time at the beginning of his career. And Hull was impressed by Serpico’s knowledge of the numbers from his career.”Bobby looked at me and he started laughing. He’s like `OK, so you do remember a lot of the history,”’ Serpico said.Del Guidice died a few years ago at age 81, and Serpico said he wishes his uncle was still around to share his own stories. Serpico’s family lived in the same Chicago neighborhood when he was growing up, and his uncle served as his godfather for confirmation and a consistent resource in his life. While the Hull jersey is heading for another home – ”I don’t even know if I’ve done the right thing about it,” Serpico said – Hall’s sweater is staying put. Probably forever.”My son’s comment … if he was here, he’d tell you `My dad’s going to be buried in that jersey and only that jersey,”’ a chuckling Serpico said.—Online:Heritage Auctions:—Jay Cohen can be reached at

WASHINGTON (AP) — Remembering recent failures when it comes to extending winning streaks and fearing the defending Stanley Cup champions turned out to be a perfect recipe for the Dallas Stars.Dallas started fast with two goals 10 seconds apart and finished strong in a 4-3 overtime victory over the Washington Capitals on Saturday night Womens Kyle Palmieri Jersey , giving the Stars their first three-game winning streak of the season. Jason Dickinson scored 3:17 into overtime to keep Dallas rolling under first-year coach Jim Montgomery.“There’s a lot of belief right now,” Montgomery said. “I don’t see any complacency in our group. I just see a determination and a focus that I haven’t seen before. That’s the exciting part.”The excitement is building for the Stars, who are starting to develop some consistency. Jason Spezza scored on a breakaway and Tyler Pitlick forced a turnover for an unassisted goal 10 seconds later as Dallas jumped out to a 2-0 lead that showed players they could hang with the Capitals.“When you come in here, there’s a little bit of fear of knowing that they can run you out of the rink if you’re not ready to go off the hop,” Spezza said. “You can’t take these guys lightly, and I thought we learned a lesson from some of the other games we played on the road.”In the process, the Stars also learned about rebounding from mistakes and moving forward after blowing a lead. Goaltender Ben Bishop allowed soft goals from sharp angles to Nicklas Backstrom and Evgeny Kuznetsov, Dallas’ defensive structure was lacking and yet it was able to get to overtime.Playing 3-on-3 in OT , Dallas outshot Washington 6-1. Capitals goalie Braden Holtby stopped Tyler Seguin on a penalty shot 59 seconds in, but Dickinson beat him on a deflection for his third of the season.“We’ll take it,” said Bishop, who stopped 29 shots. “They’re not always going to be Picassos. Sometimes you’re going to have to grind. Last game we had to hold on at the end. This one we had to find a way to come back and get that one in overtime. Finding different ways to win, that’s the big thing. It doesn’t matter how, just as long as you get it.”It also was a struggle for the Capitals, who turned the puck over on all three Stars goals in regulation and still had a chance after Kuznetsov tied it on the power play with 12:03 remaining in the third period. NEW YORK — Neither the New York Islanders nor New York Rangers seemed to be candidates to liven up a bleak-looking fall and winter for Big Apple sports. But now Islanders-Rangers games might be the only compelling theater in New York until baseball season starts.A pair of teams in the midst of surprisingly solid starts will square off for the first time this season Thursday night, when the Islanders host the Rangers at Barclays Center. Both squads beat the visiting Vancouver Canucks in their previous games. The Rangers extended their point streak to seven games Monday Darren Helm Jersey , when they beat the Canucks 2-1. The Islanders then snapped a three-game losing streak Tuesday by knocking off Vancouver 5-2.Article continues below ...The wins left the longtime rivals tied for second place in the Metropolitan Division — a far different spot than most would have forecast for the duo after last season, when the seventh-place Islanders and eighth-place Rangers were separated by three points as they brought up the rear in the Metro. The Rangers embarked upon a rebuilding plan when they dealt several veterans at the February trade deadline and hired rookie head coach David Quinn in May. The Islanders, who hired reigning Stanley Cup winner Barry Trotz as head coach in June, appeared to be following suit in July, when star center John Tavares left as a free agent for the Toronto Maple Leafs.Instead, the Islanders (9-6-2) and Rangers (9-7-2) may be playing for a share of first place Thursday night. A win by either team and a regulation loss by the Columbus Blue Jackets against the Florida Panthers will create a tie atop the division. It’s early, of course, but an Islanders-Rangers game that matters offers some unexpected excitement on an otherwise barren New York sports landscape. The third NHL team in the tri-state area , the New Jersey Devils, have lost nine of 12 and have the fewest points in the Eastern Conference. The NFL’s Giants and Jets are a combined 5-15 and vying for top-five draft picks while the NBA’s Knicks and Nets are a combined 10-20.Plus, Islanders-Rangers games have been notoriously combative, both on the ice and in the stands, since the Islanders joined the NHL in 1972. The Rangers have earned three more wins (125-122) over the Islanders and hold a narrow 878-861 lead in goals scored “We’ve talked about it a little bit but you hear more from the outside,” first-year Islanders winger Tom Kuhnhackl told reporters following practice Wednesday. “You hear about the rivalry. It’s something special. I’m excited.”The Islanders have dominated the series the last three seasons. They have won the last seven games in the series and are 11-1-0 against the Rangers since moving to Barclays Center, where they have never lost to the Blueshirts.“I think, so far Frans Nielsen Jersey Kids , obviously, the record doesn’t lie,” Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist told reporters following practice Wednesday. “They’ve been better than us at the Barclays Center, so we’ve got to do what we can to turn that around. They always come out hard and play with confidence and we’ll match that.”Lundqvist and Thomas Greiss, each of whom earned the win over the Canucks earlier this week, are expected to face each other in a battle of number one goalies Thursday night. Lundqvist made 25 saves against Vancouver on Monday, when he recorded the 437th victory of his career to move into a tie for seventh-place on the NHL’s all-time wins list with Jacques Plante. Greiss made 22 saves Tuesday.Lundqvist is 30-20-7 in 59 career appearances against the Islanders. Greiss is 3-0-1 in five games against the Rangers.

During an episode of 31 Thoughts the Podcast Boston Bruins T-Shirts Womens , former Edmonton Oiler, Andrew Ference was on the show and leveled the 2013-15 teams he captained. The nearly hour-long show was, to say the least, a damning testimonial to the 2013-15 Oilers teams that struggled with young draft pick stars like Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle. The team had a terrible win/loss record during that time and not many years later, both Hall and Eberle were traded despite being what many believed the future core of the franchise.Brought in as a free agent, the veteran defenseman from Sherwood Park 鈥?a hamlet located just minutes outside of the city of Edmonton 鈥?Ference was excited to come home and play for the team he grew up watching. He was bringing with him a winning mentality and hard-working demeanor having been part of a Bruins team that won a Stanley Cup not聽many years before. What he found when he arrived was disappointing.advertisingThe Oilers were in the midst of building a team based on four first overall draft picks聽that included highly-talented forwards. Unfortunately, the young team was more concerned about partying and the nightlife scene in Edmonton than they were working hard or winning.聽鈥淵ou had a group of players that talked about how they wanted to make the playoffs, and talked about how sick they were of losing, and then by Game No. 3 after losing 6-1, they鈥檙e straight out to the bar to three in the morning, lighting up the nightlife scene in Edmonton,鈥?Ference said.Saying that his voice would only carry so much weight with a team of youngsters who mocked the idea of working hard in practice Boston Bruins Hoodies Womens , Ference said,聽"It was to the point where it was ridiculous where the lifestyle was way more important than actually playing the game and making the playoffs.鈥?He suggested, then coach Dallas Eakins was made a scapegoat and basically run out of town when the Oilers failed to win games.advertisingFerence added, 鈥淵ou could have had any kind of defence or any kind of system, if you go on a Western swing and your guys are out every single night until 5 a.m., you鈥檙e not going to win too many games.鈥?via TwitterFerence also leveled the city of Edmonton itself for being so quick to jump on the players for every mistake 鈥?suggesting it was a very hard place to play. The fans are always looking for their next whipping boy and it's still going on today, that whipping boy being Milan Lucic.Ference did admit that while it was disappointing, he wasn't surprised that the youngsters didn't listen to the leadership he was trying to provide. Ference was not even close to one of the more skilled players on the team and those young guys knew that he wasn't going to outlast them. Why listen to a guy who the team was in no way building around?advertisingWhat This MeansThere were always rumors things in Edmonton around that time were messy. While Ference didn't name names, his testimony has to point at players like Hall, Eberle and Justin Schultz who were potential stars but traded at their peaks in mind-boggling moves. If their behavior was cancerous, it explains a little bit more as to why those trades went down in the first place.Certainly, it's not a good look for the organization and it must have been bad if a homegrown talent like Ference was happy enough to throw the team under the bus.advertising NASHVILLE Boston Bruins Hats Womens , Tenn. WASHINGTON (AP) The Stanley Cup Final is a block party for the Washington Capitals. For all of Evgeny Kuznetsov’s points on offense and Braden Holtby’s saves in net , the Capitals are one win away from blocking their way to the Cup. They’ve gotten in front of almost a third of the Vegas Golden Knights’ shots, blocking with enough smarts and precision to take a 3-1 series lead into Game 5 Thursday.”There’s more to blocking shots than just going out there and trying to get hit,” Holtby said. ”We’re doing a great job of creating the right layers, guys going out there strategically to know which lane I’m picking for sight lines and they’re taking away the other half and making big blocks.”Washington is blocking in quantity and quality in the final, 86 total, in limiting Vegas to 124 shots on Holtby – many of which he’s seeing and stopping . Even star captain Alex Ovechkin is blocking shots as he gets closer to tasting his first championship.”You see `O’ jumping in front of shots, it makes everyone on the team want to do the same,” winger Devante Smith-Pelly said.Blocking shots is a team-wide commitment right now and comes from a season’s worth of skaters, goaltending coach Scott Murray, Holtby and Philipp Grubauer getting on the same page. The goalies have worked on making sure they can see past blocks to give players the confidence to get in front of pucks. And in return, Capitals players study opponents’ tendencies and consciously decide when to try to block a shot and not so Holtby isn’t at a disadvantage.”You obviously don’t want to cross in front of him,” center Jay Beagle said. ”You don’t want to become a screen. So if you miss the block Evgenii Dadonov Jersey Kids , which happens, guys are good at shooting pucks and stuff, you want it still so from your standpoint you didn’t hinder Holts’ view.”Defensemen have an understanding of which half of the net is their responsibility and which half is Holtby’s. Forwards closer to the blue line have to react quickly, take the right angle and get to the shooter.”If guys have time and space, they’re going to be able to sift one through,” Smith-Pelly said. ”For the forwards, it’s just going out there pretty hard and just getting in the way.”The amount of shots the Capitals have blocked through four games seems to be getting in the Golden Knights’ heads. They’re struggling to get quality shots through and resorting to settling for lower-danger scoring chances.”If you’re going to take shots, make sure they pay a price for blocking those shots,” Vegas coach Gerard Gallant said. ”Shoot it harder.”Capitals coach Barry Trotz doesn’t want his players thinking too much about blocking shots or hesitating. He doesn’t care much about Ovechkin’s blocking form or the philosophy of shot-blocking as long as it keeps the puck out of the net.”If you’re positionally sound, if you’re in shot lanes, block the shot,” Trotz said. ”It’s all about will.”And that will can turn into skill. Washington has been comfortable and confident enough in the final to push the puck up ice quickly Youth Jamie McGinn Jersey , and a well-timed block shot can set the table for an odd-man rush.”The less shots they have, the more opportunities we’re gonna have in offensive zone,” defenseman Dmitry Orlov said. ”Sometimes when you block it, you get quicker pass and you jump on the rush and you got 3-on-2 or 4-on-3.”The Golden Knights by this point are well-aware of that. But they don’t really have a solution.”You just have to – I don’t know – defensemen, puck fake, maybe move around, or maybe look for a guy off to the side, or put it off the end wall,” forward Alex Tuch said. ”There are a bunch of different plays that could happen and when they’re blocking shots they’re getting momentum from it, and if they’re blocking shots and having odd-man rushes that’s even worse. ”In addition to a suffocating neutral-zone trap that’s not easy to play but has frustrated opponents for four rounds, the Capitals have embraced a shot-blocking-when-it-matters mentality.”It’s not exactly fun, but you got to do if you really want to win Womens Jared McCann Jersey ,” Smith-Pelly said. ”Everyone is on board with doing those things.”—More Stanley Cup coverage:— ST. It’s nice to get a few lucky bounces and get the hat trick.”Boeser scored his first goal on a shot that deflected off the end boards and hit the back of Allen’s leg pads before trickling into the net.“Whenever a goal scorer gets a lucky-bounce goal, you’re hoping it’s the start of something good,” Canucks coach Travis Green said. “Our two young guys, they were great tonight. It’s great to see.”St. Louis had won five consecutive games against Vancouver and had recorded a point in their nine previous games. Pettersson previously had five points Nov. 2 versus Colorado.“I don’t really know what to answer,” Pettersson said when asked about his offensive output. “I’m just trying to create chances and points will come when you play good. BUFFALO Arizona Coyotes T-Shirts Womens , N.Y. (AP) See ya, Sid. Hello, Jack Eichel.Once the shock of being traded wore off, Conor Sheary put aside his past of playing alongside Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby, and began eagerly looking ahead to what might be in store with the Buffalo Sabres.”I wasn’t expecting it, but at the same time you have to look at the positives,” Sheary said Thursday, a day after the Buffalo gave up a conditional fourth-round draft pick to acquire him and defenseman Matt Hunwick.”I have to put my Pittsburgh years behind me now Arizona Coyotes Hoodies Womens ,” the third-year NHL forward said. ”I’m super excited with the new chapter in my life.”In Buffalo, Sheary gets the opportunity to recreate his role as a play-making, two-way forward on a line centered by Eichel.”When you’re playing with a guy like that, you kind of try to get him the puck as much as you can,” Sheary said.”I think a big part of my game is creating turnovers and getting chances for my linemates,” he added. ”Hopefully, we can create some chemistry there. It’ll be awesome and maybe we’ll grow something with that.”With two years left on his contract, Sheary was the odd-man out in Pittsburgh Arizona Coyotes Hats Womens , which freed up $5.25 million in salary cap space in trading both players. The Penguins quickly used some of the savings to re-sign forward Riley Sheahan to a $2.1 million, one-year contract. The Sabres, by comparison, lack play-making depth at their top-line wing positions, especially after trading Evander Kane to San Jose in February. Buffalo’s top three centers and Kane accounted for scoring 94 of the team’s league-worst 199 goals last season.Five-on-five production was also an issue cited by general manager Jason Botterill as the reason he acquired Sheary. All but eight of Sheary’s 95 points in 184 career games have come in even-strength situations.Another benefit for the rebuilding Sabres was adding a two-time Stanley Cup winner to a team that has finished last in three of the past five seasons.”I think if I can just bring a little of that playoff experience to the locker room and try to change the culture, that’ll be a good thing,” said Sheary, who credited Crosby for being a mentor. ”He definitely taught me a lot. And I’ll definitely take that and use that to my advantage moving forward.”Botterill previously served as the Penguins assistant GM and had a hand in signing Sheary Custom Arizona Coyotes Jerseys , who was a late bloomer in part because scouts considered him too small at 5-foot-8 and 175 pounds. Undrafted after completing his college career at UMass, he signed an amateur tryout contract with the Penguins’ AHL affiliate in March 2014.Two year later, Sheary made his NHL debut and eventually scored six goals, including a winner, and 10 points during Pittsburgh’s first of two championship runs. After scoring 23 goals and 53 points in 61 games in 2016-17, Sheary’s production dropped last year, when he finished with 18 goals and 30 points in 79 games.Sheary blamed the drop-off on a lapse in confidence that lead to a midseason slump in which he had three goals and six assists in 35 games. He closed the year with six goals and two assists in his final 15 games.”I think toward the end of the year I finally found myself again,” he said. ”Although I didn’t score in the playoffs , I felt as though I was contributing. Hopefully, I can build on that going forward.”— The Buffalo Sabres have placed under-performing forward Remi Elie on waivers, and the Toronto Maple Leafs pared their defensive depth by waiving Martin Marincin. The Sabres announced the move Saturday, while a person familiar with the Maple Leafs’ decision told The Associated Press about Marincin. He played his second straight game after being a healthy scratch in Buffalo’s previous seven outings.Elie has one assist in 16 games since being waived by Dallas and claimed by the Sabres on Oct. 2.Marincin becomes the odd-man out after Toronto acquired defenseman Jake Muzzin in a trade with Los Angeles on Monday. The sixth-year player has two assists in 10 games this season and will be assigned to the minors should he go unclaimed.

COLUMBUS , Ohio — The sting of a home loss during the weekend became a little more tolerable when the Columbus Blue Jackets learned that all-star Seth Jones will be available to play in Tuesday night’s game against the Arizona Coyotes at Nationwide Arena.Jones suffered a second-degree sprain of the medial collateral ligament in his left knee during a Sept. 25 preseason game against the Buffalo Sabres and missed the first seven games of the regular season. He was activated from injured reserve on Monday. The 24-year-old defenseman’s projected recovery was four to six weeks, but he will return to the ice less than a month after the injury.Article continues below ...“Obviously, (he’s) a big part of what we do,” Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella said Monday, according to the team’s website. “He’s worked hard to get back as quickly as he’s been able to. I’m happy he’s back in.“He does everything for us. He sets the tempo of the game, penalty killing, power play. I just can’t pick on one thing he helps us with. He’s just a complete player.”Jones’ teammates certainly will welcome him back on the ice. Last season, he contributed 16 goals and 41 assists for 57 points with a plus-10 rating in 78 regular-season games. He tied a franchise record, also set by teammate Zach Werenski, for most goals in a season by a defenseman.Jones will rejoin Werenski to form the Blue Jackets’ top defensive pairing. Werenski has two goals this season playing alongside David Savard.“We read off each other and know what the other is going to do,” Werenski said of Jones. “We have the same mindset offensively. If he’s up in the play, I’m going to read off him. If I’m up he’s going to read off me. We just work well together.”Savard will move to the second or third pairing while Ryan Murray and Markus Nutivaara remain paired together. Candidates to join Savard include Adam Clendening Jacob Markstrom Jersey , Scott Harrington and Dean Kukan.“Savvy’s not going to lose ice time. He’ll play,” Tortorella said. “He’s a big part of our back end.”The Blue Jackets (4-3-0) and the Coyotes (2-5-0) enter the matchup after losses on Saturday. Columbus was beaten 4-1 at home by the Chicago Blackhawks. Arizona fell 5-3 on the road to the Winnipeg Jets. Each team has something in common — a struggling power play. The Coyotes have converted just 2 of 19 chances this season with a man advantage. That ranks 29th in the NHL.In Saturday’s loss, they failed on a power-play opportunity with 5:38 remaining to tie the score, finishing 0 of 4 against the Jets. The Blue Jackets were similarly frustrated by their power play against the Blackhawks, also going 0 of 4. Overall, their power play is slightly better than the Coyotes, ranking 23rd in the league (4 of 29). But at home, Columbus is just 1 of 15.“We just couldn’t find a way to score” against Chicago, Tortorella said.Arizona’s Clayton Keller scored two of his team-leading three goals against the Jets. He also leads the team with five points.During Monday’s practice at Nationwide Arena, Keller was joined on the top line by center Alex Galchenyuk, who has yet to play this season because of a lower-body injury.Coyotes coach Rick Tocchet said Galchenyuk has been cleared to play and will be a game-time decision. Galchenyuk came to Arizona during the summer in a trade with the Montreal Canadiens.“I don’t want him to think that he has to carry this team,” Tocchet said Markus Granlund Jersey , according to the team’s website. “I don’t want him to play too fancy. That’s just going to defeat the purpose. He’s just got to be Alex Galchenyuk — play smart, go hard and shoot when you can.“He’s got a great shot. We need that shot in the lineup.”The Coyotes need an infusion on offense. Their 10 goals in seven games rank last in the NHL.“He can score. He can create a lot of offense,” teammate Alex Goligoski said. “We’ve kind of been missing a little bit of that scoring touch so maybe it’s a good time for him to jump back in there.” HELSINKI (AP) — Patrik Laine could hardly find a better place than home to show off his high-scoring instincts.Laine, from Finland, had a hat trick as the Winnipeg Jets beat the Florida Panthers 4-2 in a regular-season game in the Finnish capital Thursday night.Laine scored in the second period and twice in the third, including an empty-netter, in the opener of a back-to-back series between the teams in front of a roaring sellout crowd of 13,500 at Hartwall Arena.“I don’t think you can imagine how good that feels,” Laine said. “It’s good to be home and score all those goals back here. It’s pretty awesome.”Laine wristed a shot past James Reimer on a power play for a 2-1 lead with 4:46 left in the second, then slapped a one-timer for the winner on a two-man advantage from atop the left circle 3:28 into the third. He scored on an empty net for his fifth career hat trick.Mathieu Perreault scored the opening goal for the Jets (8-4-1), and captain Blake Wheeler and defenseman Dustin Byfuglien had three assists each. The Panthers (2-5-3), who outshot Winnipeg 38-36 , tied the score twice on goals by Keith Yandle and Evgenii Dadonov.Florida captain Aleksander Barkov, also a native of Finland, assisted on Yandle’s goal.“Overall, as a team, we played good in their zone,” Barkov said. “We have another game (Friday), and we have to concentrate on that.”Laine, whose 44 goals were second to Alex Ovechkin’s 49 last season for the NHL lead, had just three goals and two assists in 12 games.“Tonight was a good example of what we see from (Laine) so often,” Winnipeg coach Paul Maurice said. “He scored three, but I think he could have had seven. I’m just so happy for him and his family that he can have a night like this. It’s just outstanding.”The Panthers had the momentum in early stages, outshooting the Jets 9-0 in the opening minutes. They controlled the puck most of the opening period Sam Gagner Jersey , but Connor Hellebuyck kept them at bay, turning back 18 shots in the opening frame.Hellebuyck denied Dadonov on a breakaway and helped the Jets kill a penalty before Perreault struck on the other side, scoring the go-ahead goal on a rebound with 1:26 remaining.“We generated a ton of chances,” Florida coach Bob Boughner said. “This is what it’s been like since the season started. We’re still trying to break through and get the offensive production going.”Yandle tied it with 15:42 left in the second period, firing a slap shot on a 4-on-3 power play. With an assist on Yandle’s goal, forward Mike Hoffman extended his point streak to eight games, and center Nick Bjugstad had the 100th assist of his career. The game was the 24th played in Europe during the regular season and the sixth in Finland. In October, the New Jersey Devils beat the Edmonton Oilers 5-2 in their regular-season opener in Gothenburg, Sweden.UP NEXTThe Jets and the Panthers complete their two-game series in Helsinki on Friday.NOTESNHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said the NHL is planning to play a season-opening game in Prague and another two games in Stockholm next season. Speaking before the game in Helsinki on Thursday, Bettman said the league is planning to keep a presence in Europe in the future.

Adam Henrique had two goals and Josh Manson and Corey Perry also scored for the Ducks, who are on a 5-0-1 streak.”At the end of the day, it was more about every guy looking at themselves in the mirror,” Lindholm said. ”It started with us (defense) really skating the puck. BUFFALO , N.Y. (AP) — Buffalo Sabres forward Kyle Okposo has sustained his third concussion in less than three years. The team announced the diagnosis on its Twitter account Tuesday, a day after Okposo was sent home for follow-up medical tests. The 30-year-old Okposo was hurt Friday, when he was felled by a punch to the face during a fight with New York’s Tony DeAngelo in the third period of a 6-2 loss to the Rangers.Okposo did not return to play against the Rangers, but was cleared to travel with the Sabres to open their three-game trip at New Jersey on Sunday. He did not play against the Devils John Hayden Jersey , and returned to Buffalo while the Sabres traveled to Florida to play the Panthers on Tuesday night. This is the latest in string of concussions for the 12th-year player. He missed the final two weeks of the 2017-18 season and spent nearly a week in a hospital after sustaining a concussion during what he called a routine hit in practice. The effects led to Okposo losing a considerable amount of weight and having difficulty sleeping. He also missed three games last March after sustaining a concussion following a collision with Ottawa’s Bobby Ryan. The Sabres are moving on from Robin Lehner after the goalie failed to establish himself as a starter during three seasons, capped by Buffalo’s last-place finish this past year.General manager Jason Botterill announced Friday the Sabres will not extend Lehner a one-year qualifying offer of about $4 million to retain his rights as a restricted free agent. The decision means Lehner will become free to sign with any team once the NHL’s free agency period opens on July 1.”It’s a scenario where you finish 31st you have to make some difficult choices,” Botterill told reporters in Dallas, hours before the Sabres were scheduled to open the NHL draft with the No. 1 pick.”Part of it that was so disappointing and difficult about it is that I know Robin is passionate about the city of Buffalo Authentic Jonathan Toews Jersey , and passionate about helping this organization,” he said. ”We felt like we had to make some adjustments.”The move comes nearly three years to the day Botterill’s predecessor, Tim Murray, gave up a first-round draft pick to acquire Lehner and journeyman forward David Legwand in a trade with Ottawa.Lehner’s tenure in Buffalo was plagued by injuries and inconsistency. He missed the first half of his first season in Buffalo after spraining his right ankle in the Sabres opening game.Last year Blake Comeau Jersey Womens , he went 14-26-9 on an under-performing team that failed to meet expectations in becoming the league’s first to finish 31st following the addition of the expansion Vegas Golden Knights.Lehner finished with a 42-61-22 record in Buffalo, and particularly struggled in winning just six shootout decisions. The price of Lehner’s qualifying offer was an issue for a rebuilding team seeking to free up space under the salary cap to address other needs.Another factor was Botterill’s intention to provide Linus Ullmark an opportunity to make the jump to the NHL on a full-time basis after spending the past three seasons developing in the minors. The Sabres lack experienced depth in goal with veteran backup Chad Johnson also eligible to become a free agent.Botterill acknowledged the Sabres are in the market to add an established goalie this offseason to work alongside Ullmark.”You have to understand there’s a growing process here, and we think Linus is ready for the next challenge,” Botterill said. ”But to hand over the No. 1 role Patrick Kane Jersey , I think that’s unfair to any young goalie.”—

Seeding means nothing in the giant game of rock , paper, scissors that is the Eastern Conference playoffs.Top-seeded Tampa Bay lost all three meetings this season against eighth-seeded New Jersey, Toronto beat Boston three out of four times and records don’t matter when Pittsburgh and Philadelphia meet in another battle of Pennsylvania. The Penguins are the back-to-back defending Stanley Cup champions while the Lightning and Bruins are among the best teams in the NHL – and yet there isn’t one obvious team to beat.”In the East, anybody can beat anybody,” said Devils defenseman Ben Lovejoy, who won it all with the Penguins in 2016. ”When we’re playing our best game, I think we can beat anybody, and I think that the opposite is true. We have to be dialed in no matter who we’re playing, and we’ve done a really good job of that against the best teams in the league this year.”The Devils certainly match up better against the Lightning than they would have against the Bruins, who are in for a tough series against the Maple Leafs. Washington has had a lot of success in recent years against Columbus but has a big question of who to start in goal and the Capitals have not played the Blue Jackets and their additions at the trade deadline. Before stubbing their toe in game 82 and failing to win the Atlantic Toronto Maple Leafs T-Shirts Womens , the Bruins looked like they had the potential to be a buzz saw with Tuukka Rask in goal and enough depth to withstand injuries all season. They still might be.”You don’t want to downplay how good every other team is, but you want to be the team to beat,” Boston defenseman Torey Krug said. ”We try to play like the team that we are and play to our strengths and make sure that other teams are changing the way that they play to play against us.”That’s half the fun of the playoffs, where matchups matter more than anything than points earned during the regular season.”There’s no sitting here saying, `Who’s the best matchup?”’ Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. ”You need health. You need luck. You need so many things to go your way to win in the playoffs.”Goaltending doesn’t hurt, either. If Tampa Bay gets the kind of Vezina Trophy-caliber play out of Andrei Vasilevskiy that he delivered for much of the season, it could go on a deep run, though the same could be said for Pittsburgh with Matt Murray, Washington with Braden Holtby or Philipp Grubauer, Columbus with Sergei Bobrovsky or Toronto with Frederik Andersen.LIGHTNING VS. DEVILSThe East’s top team for much of the year Toronto Maple Leafs Hoodies Womens , Tampa Bay hopes Steven Stamkos is healthy after dealing with a nagging lower-body injury late in the season. Stamkos, 100-point scorer Nikita Kucherov and top defenseman Victor Hedman make the Lightning a scary opponent. The Devils aren’t scared. They have Hart Trophy candidate Taylor Hall, star rookie Nico Hischier and enough veteran playoff experience to not look out of place.”We’ve been in a playoff spot all year long and we’ve earned the right to be here, so that’s what we understand as a group,” said Devils center Brian Boyle, who went to the 2014 final with the Rangers and then the next year with the Lightning. ”We believe in what we have. The way we play, our foundations, systems, are what got us here.”BRUINS VS. MAPLE LEAFSPlenty has changed since Boston beat Toronto in seven games in 2013.The Maple Leafs added Mike Babcock as coach, Andersen in goal and have young stars Auston Matthews Toronto Maple Leafs Hats Womens , Mitch Marner and William Nylander.”It’s a very exciting team, a very dynamic team,” Maple Leafs deadline addition Tomas Plekanec said. ”A lot of young talent on this team.”The Bruins can go punch-for-punch with the Maple Leafs and just about anyone in the league. Led by the top line of Brad Marchand, Patrice Bergeron and David Pastrnak, they have handled injuries to Bergeron, Rick Nash, captain Zdeno Chara and others and just keep clicking.”We feel we’ve got a pretty strong lineup and that’s been a constant all along even though we’ve missed guys,” coach Bruce Cassidy said. ”That’s just what it’s been this year. It’s just how we’re going to be. It’s become a bit of our fight song, so to speak, that Custom Toronto Maple Leafs Jerseys , hey, we can do it and different guys in and out, guys are prepared to step in and play with whoever they’re asked to play with.”CAPITALS VS. BLUE JACKETSDespite losing several key players last offseason, the Capitals won the Metropolitan Division for the third consecutive year. Their reward: a matchup against Bobrovsky, Artemi Panarin and the John Tortorella-coached Blue Jackets.”We’ve always thought that they’ve been a pretty good team for the last few years, not just the last couple where they’ve had more success,” Holtby said. ”I think we’ve always had a good challenge against them. We play better against solid teams, teams that are coached well and it’s always fun to play against them. I think it’ll be a good series.”At the very least, it probably won’t be a short series.PENGUINS VS. FLYERSThese two teams don’t like each other, which should make for some fireworks in the first round. Since they last met in 2012 , Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and the Penguins have won the Cup twice, but something about Philadelphia-Pittsburgh makes for good games.”They’re really fun games to play,” Flyers MVP candidate Claude Giroux said. ”They’re not easy games to play, but it’s easy to get up and play some hockey when you know you’re playing the Penguins.”CONFERENCE FINAL PREDICTIONToronto over Pittsburgh in seven games. Matthews outscores Crosby and the Maple Leafs make their first trip to the Cup Final since they won it all in 1967.— WASHINGTON (AP) Winnipeg Jets top center Mark Scheifele remains out with an upper-body injury and is expected to miss Tuesday night’s game at Nashville.Coach Paul Maurice says he’s going to be cautious with Scheifele with the playoffs a month away. Scheifele is missing his third and fourth consecutive games – Monday night at Washington and Tuesday at Nashville. The team has not said if this is the same injury that kept him out 16 games earlier this season.Maurice says backup goaltender Steve Mason is out two to three weeks after having a knee scoped, and defenseman Dmitry Kulikov has been sent back to Winnipeg with his upper-body injury. The Jets are second behind Nashville in the Central Division. They’re also without defensemen Jacob Trouba and Toby Enstrom and forwards Adam Lowry and Shawn Matthias. Maurice says Enstrom could play against Nashville.—

CHICAGO — Corey Crawford last took the ice in game action with the Chicago Blackhawks 10 months ago before what was revealed to be a concussion has kept him sidelined ever since. That is expected to change on Thursday when Crawford will likely make his first start since December against the Arizona Coyotes at the United Center. Crawford has been working out with the Blackhawks for the past few weeks but has not be ready to return to the net in a starting role since December.Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville told reporters on Wednesday that as long as Crawford continues to feel good at Thursday’s morning skate , he will start. The decision will be up to Crawford.Article continues below ...“He looks good in the net,” Quenneville told reporters on Wednesday, according to The Athletic. “He’s been off for a long, long time — is there rust? Do we expect rust? I think the way he’s competing and practicing and finding pucks, he looks like he hasn’t missed a beat.”While Crawford is set to return, veteran forward Brandon Saad could be a healthy scratch for Thursday’s game. Saad was recently demoted to the fourth line and has been wearing a practice jersey designated for healthy scratches all week in practice. Quenneville has said repeatedly that he needs to see more from Saad. Asked Wednesday if Saad will play against Arizona, Quenneville replied, “We’ll see.”The Blackhawks (3-0-2) have had all five of their games this season decided in overtime. Chicago has not played since Saturday, when they beat the St. Louis Blues, 4-3, in overtime when Alex DeBrincat scored with nine seconds remaining in overtime to lift the Blackhawks. Cam Ward made 35 saves in the win , which was expected to be Chicago’s final game without Crawford in the lineup.“Practices have been great,” Crawford told reporters Wednesday. “I’ve been getting the timing a little bit more, getting up to speed and reading shots and all of that. We’re still going to wait until (Thursday) morning (to decide) but right now, I’m feeling good.”Meanwhile, the Coyotes (1-4) enter Thursday’s game in a season-long scoring slump. Arizona dropped a 2-1 loss to the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday night and has not scored more than one goal in each of their four losses. The Coyotes have been shut out in three of their four losses and have tallied just four goals in five games. In Tuesday’s loss, Arizona netted its only goal on a first-period power-play goal by Brendan Perlini, who gave the Coyotes an early lead. The Coyotes have now been outscored 11-3 this season, which has caused continual frustration for a team looking to get its offense rolling.“Once again, we scored one goal. We’ve got to score some goals,” Arizona coach Rick Tocchet told reporters after Tuesday’s loss, according to the Coyotes’ official website. “We had some opportunities there (Tuesday) Womens Alexander Steen Jersey , a couple point-blankers and we didn’t put them in. … There’s some empty nets there. I don’t know what else to say. I mean, the play is there, put (the puck) in, you put it in. There’s no secret.”Despite the lack of scoring, Perlini believes Arizona will find a way to turn things around.“We’re doing good things,” Perlini told reporters Tuesday. “A lot of good chances out there, sometimes, it’s just the odd bounce here and there. I know it sounds funny, but as long as you keep at it, we’re going to start scoring in big numbers so I think it will flip around the other way.” The Montreal Canadiens are off to an unexpectedly good start this season with a 4-1-2 record but are facing their first bit of adversity as they prepare to host the Calgary Flames at Bell Centre on Tuesday. The Canadiens twice blew two-goal leads and ultimately lost 4-3 in overtime Saturday to the Ottawa Senators, another early-season surprise. “You have to learn from losses Brayden Schenn Jersey ,” Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher told after practice Monday. “You learn more from a loss than you do from a win. We made some mistakes. We understand the errors we made.Article continues below ...“After our previous losses, we’ve done a pretty good job of responding. This is a little bit of a different situation, where we let a lead slip away. Now we have to react the appropriate way, come back strong with a good effort and learn how to play in those situations.”Canadiens goaltender Carey Price, who gave up four goals on 34 shots against the Senators, will be under the microscope. He gave up a weak goal on a shot along the goal line by Ottawa’s Mikkael Boedker that cut the Canadiens lead to 3-2 on Saturday.Price, who is in the first year of an eight-year, $84-million contract that pays him $15 million this season, ranks 34th in the NHL in save percentage (.904) and 25th in goals against average (2.57).The Canadiens are expected to go with the same lineup which means forwards Charles Hudon (healthy scratch), Tomas Plekanec (back) and defensemen Victor Mete (hand) could be out. Mete could play which could result in Karl Alzner, who had a rough night against Ottawa Authentic Carl Gunnarsson Jersey , being scratched. The Canadiens must improve in the faceoff circle. They are last in the NHL with a 42.6 winning percentage. They lost both faceoffs in overtime against the Senators, when possession is critical in a 3-on-3 situation, before losing the game.“At the end of the day, I think there’s a lot of things that go into being a good faceoff guy,” Canadiens coach Claude Julien told The Montreal Gazette. “For certain guys, it’s the experience of going through the league at least once, knowing the centremen they’re taking them against. You learn to see the tendencies. You also understand that there’s some experience that comes into play. “There’s also guys that have a real good eye-hand co-ordination that’s unbelievable. Some of it is determination. There’s so many things that come into play as far as being a centerman.”The Flames are ranked eighth in the NHL in faceoff winning percentage at 52.3 percent.Calgary is coming off a 4-1 win against the Rangers in New York on Sunday. Elias Lindholm, 23, whom the Flames acquired from the Carolina Hurricanes along with Noah Hanifan for Dougie Hamilton in June, is tied for the team lead in goals with five.He has been playing on Calgary’s top line with Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan.“We built some chemistry pretty early in the season,” Gaudreau told the team’s website. “He’s a great teammate and a great player Colton Parayko Jersey , a smart player, so it makes it easier to (transition) when you’re playing with that good of a guy and that skilled of a player. Hopefully we can keep building off of it because I know all three of us have five, six years left on our contracts in Calgary.”Calgary coach Bill Peters, who also joined the Flames from the Hurricanes, coached Lindholm in Carolina after the Hurricanes selected him with the No. 5 pick in the 2013 NHL draft. “Lindy has been a good player for a long time,” Peters said on “He probably came into the league a little bit early. He played right after he got drafted and then got hurt and went down to the American league and back up, so I’m very familiar with his path. But he’s a very smart player, a very reliable player who can play center and wing, real good on face-offs. He’s a good player and that’s why he got drafted where he got drafted and we’re excited to have him.”

Everywhere longtime NHL coach Dave Tippett goes in Seattle Ottawa Senators Hats Authentic , people ask him two questions.“One, ‘What’s the name going to be?’ And two, ‘Where do I get my tickets?'” Tippett said. The more immediate question is when — not if — an NHL expansion team is coming to Seattle as the league’s 32nd franchise and first in the U.S. Pacific Northwest. The prospective owners will make their pitch to an executive committee of owners in New York on Tuesday with a vote by the full Board of Governors possible as early as December. It is a virtual certainty the puck drops in Seattle two or three years from now.Seattle’s pursuit of an NHL team is led by an ownership group featuring Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheimer and it includes a successful deal to renovate downtown’s KeyArena. Fan interest is a given, with 10,000 season tickets selling out in 12 minutes and 32,000 total deposits secured. On the heels of Las Vegas hitting it big with the Golden Knights in a city that had no history of major professional sports, excitement is brewing for the potential of bringing NHL hockey to the Emerald City.“I talked to a lot of people out there and they want this team,” said Capitals winger T.J. Oshie, who grew up outside Seattle. “It’d be great for the area. I think fans there are very devoted to their sports teams. That’s going to be pretty cool not having the family have to drive up to Vancouver to see me every year.”For decades, the 2½-hour drive to Vancouver has been the only chance for the people of Seattle to see the NHL up close. The Seattle Thunderbirds and Everett Silvertips of the Canadian major junior Western Hockey League have a presence in the area, and before that, the Totems played minor-league games there from 1944-1974.From a pro standpoint it has been almost a century since the 1917 Stanley Cup-winning Metropolitans of the Pacific Coast Hockey Association folded. Seattle has been without the NBA since the SuperSonics moved to Oklahoma City and became the Thunder in 2008, leaving it as the biggest American market without a major professional winter sports team.“We turn out for our teams, and we love the grit that comes with hockey,” Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan said. “We have some of the most innovative companies in the world Custom Ottawa Senators Jerseys , and so we’re continuing to grow and build a whole range of innovating leaders and wealth. But at the same time, we have that old, middle-class, ‘let’s go mix it up’ point of view, and that’s hockey.”Seattle as a sports town is unquestioned based on the support for the Seahawks of the NFL, Mariners of Major League Baseball, Sounders FC of Major League Soccer and the champion Storm of the WNBA. Tippett, now an adviser for Seattle Hockey Partners LLC after coaching the Stars and Coyotes for 14 seasons, knows all about that because his daughter, son-in-law and his “sports-crazed” grandchildren call Seattle home.“It’s incredible the passion of the sports people here,” Tippett said. “It’s built into the community.”Hockey, too? Tippett said there are roughly 140 adult hockey teams in Seattle, a major difference from when Tom Bissett grew up there in the 1970s.There weren’t many rinks in the city when Bissett followed his older brothers into organized hockey and helped win two national titles by beating established teams like Detroit’s Little Caesars.“It was kind of a, ‘Who are these guys from Seattle?’ type of thing,” Bissett said.Bissett looked forward to trips up Interstate 5 to Vancouver to see NHL games with heroes like Totems alum Bobby Schmautz. Bissett made it , too, skating in five games with the Red Wings in 1991 as the only Seattle-born player to appear in an NHL game. It’s an honor that makes Bissett dream of attending games in his hometown.“It would be a bucket list thing for me,” said Bissett, who now works in insurance and coaches high school hockey in Michigan. “To have that now in the local town where I was born in the Swedish hospital in downtown Seattle, I just think it would be awesome.”The NHL seems to be on board. Deputy commissioner Bill Daly said the league has been intrigued about the concept of a franchise in Seattle and found no concerns or red flags about the market.Bruckheimer, majority owner David Bonderman and brothers Tim and Tod Leiweke — the CEO and team president — have spent significant time making sure of that. While the return of the NBA was for many years the focus of potential owners, the Seattle Hockey Partners made the NHL the first order of business and put the arena piece in place to make it possible.“This is going to happen,” Tim Leiweke said. “This is now about greatness. … It’s about the NHL and doing something that is spectacular.”While the Board of Governors could vote to approve a Seattle franchise in early December and set off a domino effect of moves to begin putting together a hockey team, the celebration hasn’t begun yet.“You have a mindset of the timeframe, but we’re working hard to assure everything is done properly to give us the best chance to get a franchise,” Tippett said. “Nobody’s jumping up and down here saying, ‘We have it’ yet. There’s a lot of work to be done.”Still, Durkan already senses something spectacular happening after the City Council voted 8-0 for the arena plan and after people lined up around the block to see the Stanley Cup in August.“I think Seattle is going to be probably one of, if not the premier, NHL hockey towns Philadelphia Flyers T-Shirts Authentic ,” Durkan said. “There is a fervor here. Winter is coming.”As one of a handful of players from Washington State, including Tampa Bay’s Tyler Johnson, Edmonton’s Kailer Yamamoto and Calgary’s Derek Ryan, playing in Seattle would represent a special milestone for Oshie.“All those kids that are in the youth rinks around there, that was me I guess a long time ago now,” Oshie said. “It would mean a lot to me and to my family to go back to where it all started.” The Anaheim Ducks and Edmonton Oilers have had plenty of late-game fireworks in recent meetings. The Pacific Division rivals should be just as desperate for a win when they meet for the first time this season on Friday afternoon at Honda Center.Edmonton (10-10-1) will be playing its second game since coach Todd McLellan was fired on Tuesday and immediately replaced by Ken Hitchcock. The Oilers overcame three deficits on the road and beat the San Jose Sharks 4-3 in overtime in Hitchcock’s debut on Tuesday night, their second win in eight games.Article continues below ...“I told them I would coach them hard and they really embraced that,” Hitchcock told reporters after the win. “They have a lot of fun and they’re a loud group and that’s a good thing.”The Ducks (9-9-5) will be trying to ride the momentum of their previous game as well.Anaheim defeated the visiting Vancouver Canucks 4-3 on Wednesday night, just its second regulation win in the past 16 games. The Ducks have earned enough points in that stretch, while taking advantage of the downturns by other Pacific Division teams, to move into third in the division. Over the past dozen years, about 75 percent of teams holding playoff spots at Thanksgiving have gone on to qualify for the postseason.“We’re taking small steps right now,” said Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf, who has two points in each of the past two games. “We’re getting better and better. We’re going to continue to build and try to get this group pushing the right way every night and every shift.”Anaheim and Edmonton have appeared evenly matched the past two seasons. In seven of the past eight regular-season games between Anaheim and Edmonton, the outcome has been decided by one goal Philadelphia Flyers Hoodies Authentic , including five that went past regulation. The Ducks also won a tight seven-game series against the Oilers in the 2017 Western Conference Quarterfinals. That series turned after the Ducks erased a 3-0 deficit in Game 5, scoring three goals in the final 3:16 with their goalie pulled for an extra attacker. The Ducks then won 4-3 in double-overtime to take a 3-2 series lead.In the third of four meetings between the teams last season, Anaheim forward Rickard Rakell scored two goals in the final 21 seconds of the third period with the goalie pulled, but Edmonton prevailed 6-5 in the shootout. In their final meeting last season, Adam Henrique scored with 1:29 left in regulation and the Anaheim net empty, tying the game 4-4. The Ducks won in overtime on a goal by defenseman Hampus Lindholm, part of a 10-1-1 finish by the Ducks that allowed them to finish second in the Pacific Division.Lindholm has missed the past two games with an upper-body injury, and Cam Fowler, the second-most seasoned defenseman for the Ducks, was struck by a puck Nov. 12 against the Nashville Predators and had surgery Friday to repair multiple facial fractures.Anaheim has had to insert two more rookie defenseman into the lineup since those injuries, Andy Welinski and Josh Mahura, who joined two other rookie defensemen already in the lineup, Marcus Pettersson and Jacob Larsson.

CHICAGO (AP) The Los Angeles Kings have owned the third period this season. The first period has been a bit of an adventure Laurent Brossoit Jersey Womens , but it’s coming around.Torrey Mitchell and Andy Andreoff scored during Los Angeles’ dominant start, and the Kings held off the Chicago Blackhawks for a 3-1 victory Monday night.”Arguably one of the best periods we’ve played this year, that first period,” captain Anze Kopitar said.Article continues below ...Los Angeles (32-22-5) has outscored opponents 73-41 in the third this season. The Kings had to scramble in the final period against the Blackhawks, but Jonathan Quick made 12 of his 27 saves in the third to help close out the Kings’ second straight win since a three-game slide.Los Angeles also put together a strong start in Saturday’s 4-2 victory at Buffalo.”I think the last two games, the way we started the hockey games has been the difference,” coach John Stevens said.Dion Phaneuf added his second goal in three games since joining Los Angeles in a trade with Ottawa, helping the Kings improve to 3-3 on their seven-game trip as they fight for playoff positioning in the Western Conference.Last-place Chicago looked awful for most of the night during its ninth loss in 10 games. Anton Forsberg made 29 stops for the Blackhawks (25-27-8), and Patrick Sharp snapped an 11-game scoring drought with his seventh goal of the season.”It was a tough, tough start,” coach Joel Quenneville said. ”There’s a certain standard to competing and starting the game and you watch in the first 20 minutes every race, every puck battle, every single play we were behind it. They won the period in every category.”It was the first game at the United Center since the Blackhawks banned four fans from their home games for directing a racist taunt toward Washington’s Devante Smith-Pelly. The team also apologized to the forward and the Capitals.Smith-Pelly was sitting in the penalty box during the third period of Saturday night’s 7-1 loss to Chicago when the fans yelled ”basketball, basketball, basketball” toward the winger, who is black. An off-ice official sitting next to Smith-Pelly notified security and the fans were promptly ejected.”Totally unacceptable in our game Adidas Luke Schenn Jersey , in any sport and in society today,” Quenneville said. The Kings grabbed control right at the start, outshooting the Blackhawks 15-4 in the first. A streaking Mitchell drove a slap shot from the high slot by a screened Forsberg at 8:31, and Andreoff made it 2-0 when he tipped in Jonny Brodzinski’s shot with 3:23 left in the period. With Chicago’s Lance Bouma in the penalty box for interference, Phaneuf beat Forsberg with another big slap shot at 4:04 of the second. The big defenseman also scored in his debut with Los Angeles on Thursday.”We weren’t playing with a whole lot of speed or energy or compete in our game and when you do that against a good team like the Kings, that’s going to happen,” Sharp said.Sharp’s rebound goal got Chicago on the board 1:42 into the third, and the Blackhawks spent much of the final period in the Kings zone. Quick denied Brandon Saad on a prime short-handed chance about three minutes in, and also stopped Artem Anisimov on a power-play opportunity right in front.NOTES: The Blackhawks traded D Michal Kempny to Washington for a conditional third-round pick in the 2018 draft. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Fourth-liners Eric Fehr and Marcus Foligno teamed for an awkward goal early and played some tough defense late.Fehr and Jonas Brodin scored their first goals of the season, and the Minnesota Wild won their fourth straight by beating the Los Angeles Kings 4-1 on Thursday night.Empty-net goals by Mikael Granlund and Mikko Koivu accounted for the final margin. Devan Dubnyk stopped 23 shots and had an assist. The Wild had to kill off three power plays to preserve a 2-1 lead late in the third period. The Kings had a man advantage for 6 minutes in a roughly seven-minute span because of back-to-back penalties by Jordan Greenway — the latter 4 seconds after the first expired — and another by Eric Staal.Foligno and Fehr, who’ve usually been part of the Wild’s second penalty-kill unit, were often put out right away by coach Bruce Boudreau with the Wild down a man.“You never want to have to kill three in a row like that, but we’re feeling strong with our groups, we’re keeping the same guys together, we’re getting a little chemistry there too Adidas Brian Gibbons Jersey ,” Fehr said. For Foligno, it was a confidence boost to get the call from Boudreau.“That’s something I talked about with him with at the end of last season, wanted to get quicker and help out this team on the penalty kill,” Foligno said. “We use a lot of the star players and that sometimes hinders them when it comes to power-play time or just 5-on-5, so role players can help out with PK and it’s good me and Eric Fehr are doing that.”Said Boudreau: “The one thing about both of them that I really like is they block shots. So they make it very difficult for the puck to get through.”Kyle Clifford scored and Jack Campbell had 22 saves for Los Angeles, which has been outscored 29-8 in losing six straight. The Kings have scored two or fewer goals in eight of 10 games, and at 2-7-1, have the second-fewest points in the league, ahead of only Detroit.“We’re in this business to win. And when you don’t win, it’s not fun. It’s build on the good things you did, but we still got some more detail in our game to get,” coach John Stevens said.Fehr’s first-period goal exemplified the Kings’ lack of good fortune.Foligno eluded Sean Walker along the left boards and centered the puck toward the Los Angeles net. Racing down the slot, Fehr was hauled down by Jake Muzzin, but the duo’s momentum carried them to the edge of the crease, where the puck deflected off a sliding Fehr and into the net. Video review confirmed the goal.“I don’t think it’d qualify as a pretty one, but it worked Adidas Carter Rowney Jersey ,” Fehr said. “Luckily, it just hit my stick … and luckily it went in before the net went off.”“It can’t discourage us. We’ve got to just keep plugging away and turn those bounces in our favor,” Kings captain Anze Kopitar said.Minnesota defenseman Ryan Suter had two assists in his 1,000th career game. He is the 325th player — and 109th defenseman — in league history to reach the milestone. The 51st defenseman in league history to have 500 points and 1,000 games played, Suter earned his 500th point last Friday. His uncle, Gary Suter, had 845 points in 1,145 games.Los Angeles, which entered the night scoring 1.89 goals per game — second-worst in the league — went without a shot for 12½ minutes in the second period.Brodin’s wrist shot from the top of the left circle beat a screened Campbell late in the second period for a 2-0 lead.Clifford pounced on an errant clear by Nick Seeler and beat Dubnyk early in the third.NOTES: Minnesota scored first for the first time in seven games. … Dubnyk got the second assist on Brodin’s goal and has seven in his career, including three last season. … The plan remains for Los Angeles D Dustin Brown, out all season with a broken finger that required surgery, to return Sunday. … Kings D Paul LaDue was back after being scratched in four straight games. MILWAUKEE (AP) — Clayton Kershaw pounded his glove over and over Danny Santana Jersey , yelling “Let’s go!” as he walked off the mound.Pretty soon, he was gone.Kershaw was hit hard in the shortest start of his spotty playoff career, and the shaky Los Angeles Dodgers lost 6-5 to the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 1 of the NL Championship Series on Friday night.“Got to do a better of keeping the score close for our guys to have a chance there at the end,” Kershaw said.Los Angeles committed four errors, including two by catcher Yasmani Grandal in Milwaukee’s two-run third inning. But another playoff flop for its ace left-hander might be its biggest concern as it tries to cool off streaking Milwaukee.“He’s been in the playoffs for a really long time,” Grandal said. “He knows what he needs to do to win games and that’s all that matters. Game 5 comes around , then he’ll be the guy on the mound and he’ll be the guy who will get us a win.”Game 2 is Saturday afternoon at Miller Park.Kershaw holds the team records for playoff wins (eight), starts (21), innings (133) and strikeouts (144), but is just 8-8 with a 4.26 ERA in 26 career postseason appearances. The Dodgers dropped to 13-13 when the three-time NL Cy Young Award winner takes the mound in the playoffs. The 30-year-old Kershaw quieted some of those October questions when the Dodgers won the NL pennant last year for the first time since 1988, going 3-0 with a 3.82 ERA in six appearances. He pitched six sparkling innings in the NLCS-clinching victory at Wrigley Field against the Cubs, and worked four scoreless innings in relief in Los Angeles’ Game 7 loss to Houston in the World Series. After he was passed over for Los Angeles’ Game 1 start in the NL Division Series this year Ender Inciarte Jersey , the 2014 NL MVP responded with eight innings of two-hit ball in a 3-0 victory over Atlanta. The victory against the Baby Braves was one of his best playoff performances. The loss against the Brewers was one of his worst.“It was a tough one,” he said. “Obviously you don’t want to get your team off to that start.”The night started to get away from Kershaw and the Dodgers when Brandon Woodruff led off the third inning with a massive drive to right-center , becoming the third reliever in major league history to homer in a postseason game.Kershaw glanced back with an incredulous look as Woodruff’s ball soared over the wall, tying it at 1 and sending a charge through the sellout crowd of 43,615.It was the first time in postseason history that a lefty-batting pitcher went deep off a left-hander. Woodruff joined the Cubs’ Travis Wood (2016 NLDS) and the New York Giants’ Rosy Ryan (1924 World Series) as relievers to homer in the postseason.“I knew he could swing the bat a little bit, for sure ,” Kershaw said. “I didn’t know he could do that, but I knew he could hit a little bit.”A passed ball and an interference call on Grandal helped set up Hernan Perez’s sacrifice fly. Kershaw minimized the damage by striking out Mike Moustakas, stranding two runners in scoring position and leading to his emotional display as he headed toward the dugout.Whatever he was trying to do, it didn’t work.Los Angeles went down in order in the fourth and Milwaukee’s first three batters reached in the bottom half, chasing Kershaw and producing two more runs on Domingo Santana’s pinch-hit single. Santana swiped second and scored on Ryan Braun’s two-out single against Ryan Madson.Braun’s clutch swing closed the book on Kershaw, who was charged with five runs Ronald Acuna Jr. Jersey , four earned, and six hits. He dropped to 2-5 with a 5.24 ERA in 11 career NLCS games.Kershaw’s shortest playoff start before the loss to Milwaukee was four-plus innings in a 9-0 loss at St. Louis in Game 6 of the 2013 NLCS, ending Los Angeles’ season.“We gave up too many bases. We didn’t play clean when he was in the game,” manager Dave Roberts said. “The errors affected the game. But as far as Clayton, I just think it was poor execution. And I thought the stuff was good, but he just made mistakes in the strike zone and defensively , again, we didn’t do him any favors.” Joshua Johnson Is HS Footballs Quadruple ThreatThe Champions x Queer EyeHappy 26th Birthday to OBJ 馃帀Happy Anniversary to the Cubs Curse-BreakingD-Rose Turned Back the Clock and Put Up 50Will Drake鈥檚 Favorite Teams Reverse the 6 God Curse?Sports Worlds Halloween Costumes Went HardUp Your Halloween Game with Giant Pumpkin RegattaThe Champions: Episode 6 Is ComingDubs Trolled Fergie So Hard It Became a ChallengePurdue Footballs No. 1 Fan Is Inspiring the TeamOne Road to MLB Starts with a Bottle Cap and BroomstickIts Been a Wild Month with Flyers鈥?Mascot Gritty馃専The Champions: Episode 5 馃専CP3-Rondo Blowup Was a Long Time ComingMahomes Is Showtime Off the Field TooCFBs Creative Entrances Put WWE to ShameWorld Pole Climbing Championships Are Something ElseNBA Let Players Know They Have to Cover Branded TattoosRight Arrow IconMatt Carpenter has been on a tear in the second half of the season. WASHINGTON (AP) The Washington Nationals have traded reliever Brandon Kintzler to the Chicago Cubs Jesse Barfield Jersey , exactly a year after the right-hander moved in another deadline deal. The NL Central-leading Cubs sent minor league pitcher Jhon Romero in the trade announced less than an hour before Tuesday’s non-waiver deadline.Kintzler, who turns 34 on Wednesday, is 1-2 with two saves and a 3.59 ERA in 45 games this season. He had been especially tough in 14 games since coming back from the disabled list from a strained forearm.”Pretty shocked but get to go to a great situation right now,” Kintzler said. ”I’ve already talked to them, they’re excited. You want to feel wanted wherever you go so they’re in a great situation, a great team, obviously we played against them last year. TORONTO (AP) — The Cleveland Indians have removed the Chief Wahoo logo from the sleeve of their uniforms for a four-game series in Toronto. The decision to nix the logo was partially driven by a failed legal challenge against the team when it played in Toronto during the 2016 AL Championship Series. While Cleveland played the Blue Jays , a lawsuit was filed to have the logo and team name banned from Canadian TV. A judge dismissed the case. The Indians have said they will permanently remove the logo from their uniforms next season. The move came after decades of protests and complaints that the grinning, red-faced caricature that dates to 1947 is racist. Cleveland will host the All-Star Game next season. In recent years, the team has slowly moved away from the cartoonish image of a big-toothed American Indian with a scarlet face and a single feather in his headdress. The Indians now use a “C? as their primary logo and have removed signs depicting Chief Wahoo from their home stadium. The Indians will return to their regular uniforms when they play at Tampa Bay next week. LAS VEGAS (AP) — Naturally, Tampa Bay’s Kevin Cash was the opening manager to speak at the winter meetings.Cash said Monday the Rays will stick with their revolutionary practice of using an “opener” next season. The Rays deviated from baseball tradition this year, regularly using a relief pitcher to begin games rather than a traditional starting pitcher. Tampa Bay went 46-38 with usual starters and 44-34 when utilizing the bullpen.“I think right now we’re discussing internally whether we do it two times through the rotation or three times through the rotation ,” Cash said Monday at the winter meetings. “But the nice thing is we’ve got all that information last year and we have a bunch of candidates that we can fill in as a traditional starter if need be. Yonny Chirinos, Yarbs (Ryan Yarbrough), Wilmer Font, Jalen Beeks.”Tampa Bay’s innovation was copied by Oakland, which started reliever Liam Hendriks in the AL wild-card game against the New York Yankees Jason Heyward Jersey , and Milwaukee. Brewers manager Craig Counsell used left-hander Wade Miley for just one batter in Game 5 of the NL Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, then brought in right-hander Brandon Woodruff. While Cash let opposing managers know when he was using an opener and would have a quick hook, Counsell sprung his move as a surprise.“Yes, it can definitely make it difficult. But I personally don’t see anything wrong with that,” Cash said. “Each manager , each club, each organization, they’re trying to get the best out of their roster. If they feel that’s the best way to do it, the opposition, you’ve kind of got to deal with it. It’s going to happen to us. We did it with other clubs Ben Zobrist Jersey , not that quickly, but playoff baseball you see different things.”Tampa Bay originally planned a limited use of “openers,” but was forced to expand their use.“I personally was not skeptical at all when we were discussing doing it one time through the rotation, potentially twice,” Cash said. “Then with the injuries when it got to three and four times , I don’t know if skeptical is the right word, it’s more concerning — like how are we going to keep guys fresh? How are we going to manage workloads in a long series? But we learned a lot through it. Now ultimately the players give you the buy-in. And we had success with it. They embraced it, enjoyed it and it’s a big credit to them.”
