The New York Giants have signed rookie first-round pick running back Saquon Barkley to a contract.
The No. 2 overall selection from Penn State rushed for 3 Adidas P.K Subban Jersey ,843 yards and 43 touchdowns and caught 102 passes, eight for scores, in three seasons with the Nittany Lions. He had 5,538 total yards on 791 touches for averages of 7.0 yards per play and 145.7 yards per game.
Barkley joins four draft choices who had previously signed: guard Will Hernandez of UTEP (second round), outside linebacker Lorenzo Carter of Georgia (third round), defensive tackle B.J. Hill of North Carolina State (third round), and quarterback Kyle Lauletta of Richmond (fourth round).
Defensive tackle RJ McIntosh, a fifth-rounder, also signed later in the day, completing the team’s draft class.
Coach Pat Shurmur will hold his first practice Monday with the team’s rookies, quarterbacks and selected veterans.
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — As if Bills coach Sean McDermott didn’t have enough to worry about in trailing the Los Angeles Chargers 28-6 at halftime on Sunday.
He had to contend with veteran cornerback Vontae Davis quitting on the team.
“Pulled himself out of the game. He communicated to us that he was done,” McDermott revealed after a 31-20 loss. McDermott provided no other details except to bluntly say, “No,” when asked if Davis was injured.
The Bills two veteran defensive leaders were far more upset with Davis essentially going AWOL.
“I don’t have nothing to say about Vontae. I’ll give him a little bit more respect than he showed us today as far as quitting Youth Marquez Valdes-Scantling Jersey ,” defensive end Lorenzo Alexander said.
“He didn’t say nothing to nobody,” Alexander added. “You know as much as I know. I found out going into the second half of the game. They said, he’s not coming out. He retired.”
Tackle Kyle Williams said he’s never encountered a player ever quitting on a team during a game.
“I think the only thing to say is he’s where he needs to be right now,” Williams said. Asked where that was, he responded: “That’s not here, point blank and simple.”
Davis issued a lengthy statement posted on the NFL’s Twitter account, announcing he is retiring after 10 seasons.
“This isn’t how I pictured retiring from the NFL,” he wrote. “But today on the field, reality hit me and hard. I shouldn’t be out there anymore.”
Davis said he meant no disrespect to Bills players and coaches.
“I hold myself to a standard. Mentally, I always expect myself to play at a high level,” he wrote. “But physically, I know today that isn’t possible and I had an honest moment with myself. While I was on the field, I just didn’t feel right, and I told the coaches, ‘I’m not feeling like myself.'”
Davis was credited with one tackle.
The Bills provided Davis a chance to re-start his career by signing him to a one-year contract in March after a dispute with former Colts coach Chuck Pagano led to Indianapolis cutting him in November.
Davis made his Bills’ debut against the Chargers after being inactive against Baltimore last week.
Davis’ abrupt departure overshadowed a defense that wilted in the first half in allowing the Chargers to score touchdowns on four consecutive drives Authentic Logan Cooke Jersey , and a week after a 47-3 meltdown in a season-opening loss at Baltimore.
McDermott also revealed he took over the defensive playing-calling from coordinator Leslie Frazier in the second half.
If that wasn’t enough, star running back LeSean McCoy’s status is uncertain after he missed the fourth quarter with a rib injury. McCoy was still experiencing pain in the locker room after the game.
He was hurt late in the third quarter when he was tackled from behind and had Buffalo center Ryan Groy fall down on him. Groy landed heavily on the left side of McCoy’s chest as he was on the ground.
McCoy returned and had a 3-yard run on the final snap of the third quarter, before missing the remainder of the game.
The numerous developments overshadowed rookie first-round draft pick Josh Allen’s debut at quarterback.
Allen struggled through much of the first half in going 8 of 14 for 126 yards, and leading the Bills to score two field goals.
The 22-year-old was better in the second half, which he began by overseeing a seven-play, 75-yard drive capped by Chris Ivory’s 1-yard plunge .
Allen finished 18 of 33 for 245 yards passing with a 3-yard touchdown to Kelvin Benjamin in the final minute and two interceptions.
The highlight for Allen was a 57-yard pass to Zay Jones in the final two minutes of the first half. Unfortunately, a false start by tackle Dion Dawkins and Allen being sacked for an 8-yard loss on third down led to Buffalo settling for Stephen Hauschka hitting a 40-yard field goal.
“I’m playing this game to win football games and that’s the only reason I’m playing,” Allen said. “At the end of the day, we didn’t get the job done, and I’ve got to do my part and I’ve got to be better.”
The Bills traded up five spots to select the Wyoming product with No. 7 pick — the highest in the draft order the Bills have chosen a quarterback.
Allen started in place of Nathan Peterman, who managed just one first down, had 24 yards passing and threw two interceptions in 10 series against Baltimore.
Numerous player demonstrations took place during the national anthem at several early NFL preseason games Thursday night. Players have been protesting police killings of black men, social injustice and racism.
Trump writes from his New Jersey golf resort that players "make a fortune doing what they love" and that those who refuse to stand "proudly" for the anthem should be suspended without pay.
Trump has told associates he believes the anthem issue is a winning one that riles up his base.
A Chicago Bears defensive back pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors stemming from a fracas at a bar in northeast Iowa.
Deiondre' Hall and Green Bay Packers defensive back Makinton Dorleant were arrested March 26 last year outside Sharkey's Funhouse in Cedar Falls. A Black Hawk County court document said Hall didn't respond to police instructions and spit in officers' faces. Dorleant was detained after he approached officers in a threatening manner following Hall's arrest Niklas Hjalmarsson Jersey , police said.
Hall entered written pleas Feb. 9 to charges of disorderly conduct and public intoxication, the documents said. A charge of interference was dropped in exchange for his plea. The 23-year-old was sentenced to six months of probation on a deferred judgment. That will allow his conviction to be removed from court records if he successfully completes the terms of his probation.
The records said Dorleant, 25 Youth Alex McGough Jersey , was given a year of probation and granted a deferred judgment at his sentencing last May on the same charges. The Packers cut him in April after he failed a physical.
Both men played college football in Cedar Falls at Northern Iowa.
Landry was a second-round selection, the 41st overall pick.
He set the Boston College single-season record with 16.5 sacks in 2016, and he racked up 26 sacks in his career. Landry鈥檚 47.5 career tackles for a loss rank second in school history while his 22 in 2016 were second all-time in a single season.
鈥淚 definitely want to make the vets here proud, and make the front office and coach [Mike] Vrabel and all the coaches out here proud for selecting me in the draft,鈥?Landry said, via the team’s website. 鈥淪o every day I definitely come out here and bust my ass because I want to definitely make an impact as a rookie and be able to help this team win a Super Bowl.鈥?/p>
The Saints still are determining Marcus Davenport‘s role early in the season after he missed three weeks of training camp with a groin injury. The first-round draft pick played 15 snaps in last week’s preseason game, making three tackles Youth P.J. Hall Jersey , one for loss, and a half sack.
But Davenport remains behind, Saints defensive coordinator Dennis Allen said.
“I think that’s still to be determined,” Allen said of Davenport’s role, via Josh Katzenstein of the Times-Picayune. “Certainly, we didn’t draft him just to be a situational pass rusher. We drafted this guy to be an every-down player, so that’s what we’re working to do Authentic Connor Brickley Jersey , to try to get him ready to do that. We’ll continue to put him in those situations, and hopefully he’ll be ready to answer the challenge.”
Cameron Jordan will start at left defensive end, and Alex Okafor appears healthy enough to start at right defensive end. Trey Hendrickson also has earned playing time in the rotation, allowing Davenport time to get his feet underneath him.
Saints coach Sean Payton said Davenport will play a lot in Thursday’s preseason finale against the Rams after the rookie defensive end missed the first two exhibition games.
LAKE FOREST Youth James Washington Jersey , Ill. (AP) — Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio was obviously thrilled when he found out about the trade for two-time All-Pro Khalil Mack last weekend.
Fangio is eager to work with Mack after the Bears pulled off a blockbuster deal with Oakland on Saturday, jolting a franchise with four straight last-place finishes.
The trade capped a busy offseason that saw the Bears mostly load up around quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. Fangio now has one of the best pass rushers in the NFL leading an already solid defense, not a bad consolation after he got passed over for the head coaching job in favor of Matt Nagy.
The Bears suddenly seem like contenders for a playoff spot. But Fangio wasn’t about to plan any parades.
He has plenty to do this week, working in a new superstar while scheming to face Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers in a primetime opener at Lambeau Field on Sunday night. It’s not clear how much Mack will play, though he obviously figures to give the defense a huge boost whenever he steps on the field.
“Well, I would say (Mack) could be a major help to us,” Fangio said. “Any time you get a player of his ability it can do nothing but help make you better, helps make the players around him better, but he’s been the same player in Oakland throughout his career, very well decorated and a lot of honors that he deserved and Oakland was never better than mid-20s in defense, so one guy doesn’t make a whole unit, as pretty evident by that.”
The Raiders ranked in the 20s on defense in each of Mack’s four seasons. But he’s joining a unit that was 10th overall last year.
Now Youth Detroit Lions Jerseys , the Bears are adding a player with 40½ sacks, and nine forced fumbles in his four seasons. Mack also leads all players with 185½ quarterback pressures and ranks second with 68 tackles for loss since entering the league, according to SportRadar.
It’s not hard for Fangio to envision more opportunities for Leonard Floyd on the opposite edge with opponents keying on Mack. He sees the same for the inside linebackers and the defensive backs, with quarterbacks under more pressure.
“It’s a chain reaction, a domino effect and hopefully, that’s what we’ll see,” Fangio said.
The question is how soon.
Mack sat out the entire offseason and preseason with Oakland trying to get a long-term extension rather than play under the final year of his rookie contract. He wound up getting a six-year, $141 million extension that guarantees him $90 million and makes him the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history.
“I think for Khalil and us in general it’s just going to be knowing where he’s at mentally with Vic’s system and then understanding where he is physically and matching the two together,” Nagy said. “We’re not going to know really until we get into it and we just kind of gauge it.”
Like Mack, rookie inside linebacker Roquan Smith is playing catch-up. The No. 8 overall draft pick held out the first three weeks of training camp before agreeing to a four-year contract that guarantees him $18.5 million. He has dealt with a tight left hamstring the past three weeks. And Floyd is getting used to playing with a casted club on his broken right hand.
“These guys are very talented,” Mack said. “You see the skillsets that they have. We’re only trying to get better. That’s the only thing I’m asking from the group, that we all get better and hold each other accountable.
The Alliance of American Football has announced the name of another head coach for its inaugural season in 2019.
Rick Neuheisel will coach the Phoenix entry in the league Authentic Customized Chiefs Jerseys , which plans to launch in February 2019. Neuheisel’s involvement has been expected for some time, although initial reports indicated that he would be coaching a team based in Southern California.
Neuheisel will instead take over the Phoenix entry and he will coach home games at Sun Devil Stadium. Neuheisel is familiar with the stadium as he coached against Arizona State when he was the head coach at the University of Washington and when he coached UCLA.
“The Alliance鈥檚 emphasis on building a dynamic relationship between players, fans and the game is what immediately grabbed my attention. There is nothing like experiencing the thrill of victory and agony of defeat together. We all invest so much into the game, and that鈥檚 something I鈥檝e missed over the years away from the sidelines,鈥?Neuheisel said in a statement. 鈥淭he combination of a passionate fan base and motivated, talented players looking to make a name for themselves on the professional level will result in exciting football at Sun Devil Stadium in the spring, with the ultimate goal being to bring home the first ever Alliance Championship.”
Neuheisel also coached at the University of Colorado and spent time on the Ravens staff from 2005 to 2007. He joins Steve Spurrier, Brad Childress, Mike Singletary and Dennis Erickson as head coaches in the upstart league.
NEW YORK — The Atlanta Braves have fared well against teams with winning records so far this season and this week will test their success.
The first stop for the Braves will be a visit to Yankee Stadium for the opener of a three-game interleague series with the New York Yankees on Monday night.
Atlanta (48-34) heads to New York after completing a three-game sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals with a 6-5 victory on Sunday.
Mike Foltynewicz pitched five one-hit innings and the Braves improved to 30-19 against teams with winning records Authentic Brian Allen Jersey , which is the best mark in the National League. Only the Yankees, Boston Red Sox and Houston Astros are performing better against winning opponents.
Atlanta begins a stretch of 16 of 18 games against teams with winning records. After visiting Yankee Stadium for the first time since June 2012, the Braves visit Milwaukee for four games next weekend and host the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 13-15.
Freddie Freeman hit a two-run homer Sunday. He is 9-for-52 (.173) in his last 12 games.
“It’s coming,” Atlanta manager Brian Snitker told reporters after Freeman hit his 16th homer of the season. “Somebody’s going to pay. It’s just one of those things that everybody goes through.
“He’s working, and we still have unbelievable confidence in him and what he brings. You feel like he’s going to do something special every time he goes up there.”
The Yankees also will get their first looks at rookie outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. and second baseman Ozzie Albies.
Acuna went 4-for-13 in the weekend series after missing a month with a mild ACL sprain and contusion in his left knee and also a lower back contusion. The 20-year-old is batting .269 with six homers and 15 RBIs in his first 32 games.
Albies enters with a .275 average and on an 11-game hitting streak. During the longest streak of his career, he is batting .431 (22-for-51).
The Yankees own the best home record in the majors at 31-12 and are 26-7 in their last 33 home games. New York also has slugged 77 of its major league-leading 137 homers at home after setting a season high with six in Sunday’s 11-1 rout of the Boston Red Sox.
Aaron Hicks hit three homers and Aaron Judge belted his 22nd, rookie Gleyber Torres hit his 15th and Kyle Higashioka delivered his first as the Yankees roughed up David Price.
Anibal Sanchez, who is 3-2 with a 2.68 ERA in nine appearances (eight starts), gets the ball for the Braves. He’s hoping to avoid his third straight loss after allowing six runs and 10 hits in 9 2/3 innings against the Toronto Blue Jays and the Cincinnati Reds.
Sanchez exited his last start on Tuesday with right calf cramps after throwing a pitch to Cincinnati’s Joey Votto.
Sanchez is making his 271st career start. The first start of his career occurred June 25, 2006, at old Yankee Stadium when he allowed seven hits in 5 2/3 scoreless innings for the Miami Marlins against a lineup featuring Derek Jeter, Jason Giambi, Alex Rodriguez and Robinson Cano.
Including his major league debut, Sanchez is 4-1 with a 3.79 ERA in six career starts against the Yankees. He last faced New York on Aug. 1 with the Detroit Tigers and held the Yankees to two runs and six hits in 6 2/3 innings in a 4-3 win at Yankee Stadium. It also was his last win with the Tigers.
If Sanchez gives the Braves a chance for a save opportunity in the ninth inning, Arodys Vizcaino could close it out. Vizcaino was placed on the disabled list June 24 with shoulder inflammation, took a rest day Sunday after throwing a side session Saturday and could be activated for the opener.
Vizcaino last pitched June 17. Before going on the DL, he posted a 1.82 ERA, converted 15 of 17 save opportunities and struck out 33 in 29 2/3 innings in 30 appearances.
Jonathan Loaisiga will make his fourth start since being inserted into the rotation for Masahiro Tanaka (hamstrings). Loaisiga is 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA in his first three starts.
Two of those starts were scoreless outings as he threw a combined 10 1/ 3 scoreless innings Patriots Danny Shelton Jersey , allowed four hits and fanned 14 in wins over Tampa Bay on June 15 and at Philadelphia last Monday. His other start was June 20 when he allowed three runs and six hits in 3 2/3 innings of a 7-5 win over the Seattle Mariners decided on a walk-off homer by Stanton.
“He was a lot more assertive, a lot more aggressive with his fastball and challenging the strike zone with it,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “We saw a number of really good breaking balls. We saw some good changeups. When he got in some putaway counts, I felt like he did a better job of making it look like a strike out of the hand, which is something you’ve got to be better at here in the big leagues.”
Monday will be the 30th regular-season meeting between the teams, who met in the 1996 and 1999 World Series. The Yankees are 17-12 all-time against the Braves.
LeBron James made the first move. Now what?
Cleveland? Los Angeles? Philadelphia? A surprise?
Stay tuned. Decision III is this summer’s blockbuster, and it’s coming soon.
James told the Cavaliers that he is not exercising his $35.6 million contract option for next season and will become an unrestricted free agent, two people familiar with the decision told the Associated Press on Friday.
The decision to decline the option for 2018-19 was expected by James because it gives him more options, which includes him re-signing with the Cavs, who can offer him the most money – a five-year, $209 million contract. James can also sign a short-term deal with Cleveland, something he has done each year since returning in 2014.
James had until 11:59 p.m. to express his intentions to the Cavs and his agent Rich Paul informed the team in the morning, said the people who spoke on condition of anonymity to the AP because the sides are not publicly commenting on moves ahead of free agency opening Sunday.
The three-time champion is now the most coveted prize in an NBA free-agent class that includes All-Stars Paul George and Chris Paul. Teams can begin negotiations with free agents at 12:01 a.m. Sunday.
The fact that he didn’t pick up his option could be good news for worried Cavs fans, who fear James may leave them for the second time in his career. If he had opted in, it would have likely meant the Cavs had worked out a trade for James.
And while the Cavs remain hopeful he’ll stay, there are other teams in the mix for the 33-year-old – and the Los Angeles Lakers appear to be at the top of the list.
With the ability to sign two maximum-contract players, the Lakers can build a ”Super Team” with James if they are able to also land George or work out a trade with San Antonio for Kawhi Leonard. On Thursday, George told the Oklahoma City Thunder he’s declining his $20.7 million option for next season.
James already has some shallow roots on the West Coast with two homes in the Los Angeles area and a film production company.
The chance to join one of the league’s most iconic franchises has an appeal to James and he said following this year’s Finals that he remains in ”championship mode.”
The Philadelphia 76ers and Houston Rockets are also believed to covet the four-time league MVP Rick Nash Jersey , who just played in his eighth straight Finals.
James will factor family – he has three children, and his oldest son is a rising hoops star – into the choice of where he plays next.
James just completed his 15th NBA season, and it may have been his best yet.
He played all 82 regular-season games for the first time, averaging 27.5 points, 8.6 rebounds and a career-high 9.1 assists per game. He showed no signs of slowing down, if anything he had found a new gear.
James then carried the Cavs, with their flawed roster after a massive trading deadline turnover, through the Eastern Conference playoffs – they survived two Game 7s and swept the top-seeded Toronto Raptors – to the NBA Finals for a fourth straight meeting with the Golden State Warriors.
It was James’ eighth consecutive Finals appearance, a remarkable feat not matched since Hall of Famer Bill Russell and a handful of Celtics did it in the 1960s. Cleveland was overmatched but James had the Cavs in position to steal Game 1 before a late-game missed free throw by George Hill and mental meltdown by Cavs forward J.R. Smith, who dribbled out the final seconds of regulation thinking his team was leading, led to an overtime loss.
With MVP Kevin Durant heading the charge, the Warriors completed a sweep of the Cavs and James, who revealed following the series that he had broken his right hand in a fit of frustration following Game 1.
James had numerous reasons to be upset. He had done everything possible, and as he left Quicken Loans Arena following Game 4 along with his sons, there was an air of uncertainty heading into this summer.
Those unknowns remain, but James is closer to solving them.
Rangers reliever Tony Barnette won’t throw for at least four weeks after an MRI revealed a strained lat muscle.
Barnette had the MRI exam Wednesday Womens Antonio Brown Jersey , a day after leaving a game in the middle of a batter. The team had initially said the right-hander had a shoulder strain after he came out of Tuesday night’s game.
The Rangers said after their 5-4 loss in 10 innings on Wednesday night that Barnette will be re-evaluated in four weeks. The reliever will not throw during that time.
Working the eighth inning in a 5-3 loss to the Houston Astros on Tuesday night, his second inning of the game, Barnette felt something different in his shoulder on his first pitch to Marwin Gonzalez. Barnette (2-0) threw two more pitches before exiting the game.
Texas recalled right-hander Chris Martin from Triple-A Round Rock. Martin was optioned to the minors on Tuesday, but was able to come back before 10 days by replacing a player on the DL.
Martin (1-2) worked the 10th inning against the Astros, and fell down after one of his pitches. The Rangers said after the game that he had a left groin issue that would be re-evaluated.
Indianapolis Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson was one of two men killed early Sunday when a suspected drunken driver struck them as they stood outside their car along a highway in Indianapolis, the team and police said.
The Colts said in a statement Sunday that the team is ”heartbroken” by Jackson’s death and that the 26-year-old ”was loved by all in the Colts organization.”
State police identified the victims as Jackson, who grew up in Atlanta Youth Terrelle Pryor Sr. Jersey , and 54-year-old Jeffrey Monroe, of Avon, Indiana. Police say they were killed when a suspected drunken driver struck them as they stood outside their car along Interstate 70 on Indianapolis’ west side.
Police said that it’s believed that Monroe was a ride-sharing operator who was transporting Jackson when Jackson became ill. Monroe pulled over to the side of the highway and got out to help Jackson when both were struck by a pickup truck that also hit Monroe’s car, police said.
The pickup’s driver, a 37-year-old Indianapolis man, tried to flee on foot but was quickly captured, State Police said. The man was believed to be intoxicated and was driving without a license Tyler Eifert Jersey , police said.
He was taken to the Marion County Jail, where blood-alcohol test results were pending.
The 6-foot, 234-pound Jackson attended Georgia Southern. He was signed by the Arizona Cardinals in May 2015 and released by the team about three months later. Jackson was signed to the Colts practice squad in December 2015 and then by the Colts to reserve/future contract in January 2016.
He was placed on injured reserve by the Colts last September.
The Colts said in their statement that they ”admired” Jackson’s ”outgoing personality, competitive spirit and hard-working mentality.”
”He was well-respected among all with whom he crossed paths, and he will be greatly missed in our locker room and throughout our entire organization,” the statement said.
It’s been quite a day for the Raiders Baker Mayfield Jersey Elite , with a certain trade being the top story for the silver and black. Here are the moves they made to get to 53 on the roster.
Waived are receiver Marcell Ateman, tight end Marcus Baugh, receiver Saeed Blacknall, tight end Pharaoh Brown, receiver Martavis Bryant, running back James Butler, tight end Paul Butler, linebacker Jason Cabinda, cornerback Jarell Carter, quarterback Connor Cook, linebacker James Cowser, cornerback Antwuan Davis, defensive end Mario Edwards, Jr., defensive tackle Connor Flagel, cornerback Antonio Hamilton, guard Cameron Hunt, offensive lineman Denver Kirkland Authentic Ito Smith Jersey , safety Dallin Leavitt, safety Quincy Mauger, cornerback Raysean Pringle, guard Jordan Simmons, defensive lineman Shakir Soto, linebacker Azeem Victor, tackle Jylan Ware, receiver Isaac Whitney, defensive tackle Gabe Wright, and tackle Ryan Yurachek.
The following veterans were released: offensive lineman Oday Aboushi, center James Stone, and cornerback Shareece Wright.

Two of the New England Patriots’ most important players are getting healthier as they prepare to head to Minneapolis for Super Bowl week.
After getting stitches in his right hand and thumb prior to the AFC championship game last week, quarterback Tom Brady was on the practice field Saturday, gripping the ball without a glove on his throwing hand. Tight end Rob Gronkowski also was at practice, returning to workouts after starting the week in the NFL’s concussion protocol.
Both are positive signs for New England, which has just one practice remaining in Foxborough before the team heads to Minnesota to resume its Super Bowl preparations. Defensive lineman Deatrich Wise, who also missed practice time this week with a concussion, joined Gronk in the team stretching period that is open to reporters.
Gronkowski hadn’t been on the practice field since his second-quarter exit from the AFC title game following a helmet-to-helmet hit from Jaguars safety Barry Church.
”It’s always great to have him out there. He’s a great player Patrick Maroon Jersey , a great person, a great teammate and a big part of what we do,” Brady said of Gronkowski. ”It obviously hurts when he’s not out there for a lot of reasons. But he’s doing the best he can do and we’re all hopeful.”
While Gronkowski and Wise were on the field, it’s unclear whether they have been officially cleared from the protocol. The team isn’t required to file its next injury report until Wednesday.
Gronk played just eight games last season and missed the Patriots’ entire playoff run after undergoing season-ending back surgery.
Since the start of last season, New England is 12-1 without Gronk. But last season it had Martellus Bennett to fill in the gap without him. Bennett signed with Green Bay in the offseason, before being released by the Packers in November. He then re-signed with the Patriots, but only appeared in two games before being placed on season-ending injured reserve.
Brady said he wants to spend the rest of the time leading up to the Super Bowl avoiding all possible distractions.
That includes not talking about a new series that debuted on Facebook recently and provides viewers a rare glimpse at his life off the field.
”What? Let’s talk about distractions,” Brady joked when he was asked about the series Saturday. ”We’ll stick to football this week, too. I like that no distractions part.”
Though this will be Brady’s eighth trip to the Super Bowl, the 40-year-old said he still has an appreciation for what it takes to be playing at this point of the season.
”I’ve never taken anything like this for granted, and I think we’re all very fortunate to be in this game,” he said. ”Being a part of a couple of these losses, those are pretty tough to swallow, but I think you realize how much effort you have to put in to prepare. It’s a very unique environment, unique game, and you have to be at your best. But in order to do that, you have to prepare as well as you possibly can.”
Falcons coach Dan Quinn had good reason not to worry about Julio Jones showing up for training camp.
Jones told Quinn weeks ago he’d report on time Malcolm Smith Jersey , even as the wide receiver sought to have his contract renegotiated. A training camp holdout appeared to be Jones’ best path to a new deal.
Finally, the Falcons announced close to midnight on Wednesday they’d reached an agreement to renegotiate Jones’ deal next year. The news came about 16 hours before Thursday’s deadline for players to report.
The Falcons open training camp on Friday.
”I probably didn’t feel the same stress that you and the fan base had,” Quinn said at a news conference on Thursday. ”There were some reports regarding him not coming. I’d known he was coming to camp for a while. That’s part of good communication, player to coaches.”
The Falcons announced Jones reported before Thursday’s 4 p.m. deadline.
Quinn said he spoke with Jones earlier this month when the receiver participated in an annual offseason passing camp in California led by quarterback Matt Ryan.
”It was probably during that time that I felt comfortable he was coming to camp,” Quinn said.
The reassurance from Jones was especially important after he did not participate in the Falcons’ mandatory minicamp in June.
Quinn and general manager Thomas Dimitroff were in good spirits as they discussed how they avoided the potential distraction of a training camp holdout by one of the team’s most prominent players.
It has been a good week for the Falcons’ leadership team. Quinn and Dimitroff have new three-year contract extensions, which were announced on Wednesday.
Jones, a two-time All-Pro and five-time Pro Bowl selection, wasn’t happy that a flurry of new contracts signed by other top NFL wide receivers moved him down the list of top-paid players at the position.
He is entering the third year of his five-year, $71.5 million contract, including $47 million in guaranteed money.
The Falcons managed to make Jones happy with an undisclosed financial ”adjustment” without a dramatic change to their salary cap position for 2018. Dimitroff wouldn’t reveal details of the new agreement.
The biggest reward for Jones was the assurance the team will rework his contract following the season. That promise was delivered with more than a handshake.
”Papers are written up, sitting on a desk waiting to be signed,” Dimitroff said.
The agreement preserves Dimitroff’s flexibility in his efforts to negotiate contract extensions for defensive tackle Grady Jarrett, offensive guard Jake Matthews and safety Ricardo Allen.
The Falcons already agreed to a five-year, $150 million extension with quarterback Matt Ryan, the most lucrative deal in NFL history, this offseason.
Ryan’s contract and talks with players moving closer to free agency left little financial space to make big changes to Jones’ deal before 2019.
”We felt like we came to a good agreement,” Dimitroff said. ”We were very creative with how we put this together.”
Jones is expected to talk with reporters on Friday, when the Falcons have their first practice of training camp. He was not seen during the 30-minute period reporters were able to view players reporting to the team’s practice facility.
Jones’ teammates seemed to have little concern about the status of the team’s top receiver.
”Oh, I don’t know what’s going on with him,” offensive guard Andy Levitre said when asked about the team’s agreement with Jones. ”He’s coming? I’m expecting everybody to be here, I guess.”
Poole said players don’t get involved in teammates’ contract talks.
”When it comes to that kind of stuff, everybody kind of worries about himself,” Poole said.
But when it comes to Quinn and Dimitroff, having one of the league’s top receivers on the practice field is crucial to the team’s hopes for a third straight playoff appearance.
”I sleep a hell of a lot better at night,” Quinn said.
Cornelius Edison spent a lot of time working as the center with the Vikings first team this summer, but he won’t be doing so in the fall.
The team activated Pat Elflein from the PUP list on Saturday and they traded for former Giants starter Brett Jones recently, which left them without a need for Edison on their 53-man roster. Edison was cut along with 19 other players as the Vikings dropped to 53 players.
In other moves that were previously reported, the Vikings released defensive end Brian Robison, cut wide receiver Kendall Wright and placed cornerback Terence Newman on the retired list so he could take a coaching job with the team. The Vikings announced many other moves Friday, which can be found here along with the rest of the cuts from the NFC.
On Saturday, they also cut guard Josh Andrews, wide receiver Jeff Badet, wide receiver Chad Beebe Colin Kaepernick Jersey , tight end Blake Bell, running back Mack Brown, linebacker Reshard Cliett, defensive tackle Curtis Cothran, linebacker Garret Dooley, guard Colby Gossett (a sixth-round pick this year), tight end Tyler Hoppes, cornerback Craig James, wide receiver Tavarres King, safety Tray Matthews, tackle Storm Norton, defensive end Ifeadi Odenigbo, cornerback Horace Richardson, safety Jack Tocho, and defensive end Jonathan Wynn.
Linebacker Kentrell Brothers was placed on the suspended list. He will miss the first four games of the season.
Since Terrelle Pryor and Josh Gordon went in round three and round two Womens Le'Veon Bell Jersey , respectively, in the 2011 and 2012 supplemental drafts, respectively, only one player has been selected in the annual July selection process. This year, at least one of the players could go as high as Pryor or Gordon did.
Gil Brandt of NFL.com believes that Western Michigan cornerback Sam Beal may be taken in round three, and that he possibly would have been a second-round pick in the 2018 draft proper.
Any team that selects a player with a pick in the supplemental draft surrenders its pick in the same round in the following year’s regular draft.
Brandt pegs the Browns and Bills as teams that may take a flyer on Beal, who considered leaving school for the April draft and who was thereafter declared academically ineligible for the coming football season.
The Tennessee Titans will be working out veteran safety Eric Reid in their search for a potential replacement after losing Johnathan Cyprien for the season with a torn left ACL, according to a person familiar with the visit.
Reid will work out for the Titans on Friday, a person familiar with Reid’s visit told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team does not announce which players it is working out.
The Titans will become only the second NFL team to bring Reid in for a visit this year. Reid’s visit with the Cincinnati Bengals ended with the safety filing a claim this spring arguing he was unsigned as a result of collusion by NFL owners over his protests of police brutality and racial inequality by kneeling during the anthem.
Coach Mike Vrabel said earlier Thursday that the Titans have looked at Reid.
”I know we’re in the process of talking and trying to bring him in,” Vrabel said. ”(GM) Jon (Robinson) and I will continue to discuss that and see where it goes. Yes, it’s a guy we evaluated and we’ll probably try to talk to his rep and see how many guys we can bring in here for a workout.”
Reid Authentic Henrik Lundqvist Jersey , 26, has been out of work since playing out his contract with San Francisco. He started 69 of 70 games with 10 career interceptions.
The safety said in March that he does not plan to protest during the anthem this season if signed by a team. After he filed his collusion claim, the NFL Players Association also filed a non-injury grievance on Reid’s behalf in May. Cincinnati owner Mike Brown reportedly asked Reid during their visit whether he would continue to kneel during the anthem.
The Titans are looking for help at safety after losing Cyprien. The veteran left practice Wednesday after hurting his left knee during a noncontact play. He grabbed at his knee and then walked to the locker room with trainers, waiving off a cart. Cyprien, who signed a four-year deal last season, started 10 games after dealing with an injured hamstring.
Tennessee already has Kendrick Lewis, 30 and with his fourth NFL team, and Demontre Hurst among the other options at safety on the roster. Kenny Vaccaro, who played the last five seasons in New Orleans, and Mike Mitchell also are among veteran safeties currently unsigned.
”Devastated to tell you that after checking him out, he tore his ACL and he’ll be out for a year http://www.ramsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-john-franklin-myers-jersey , which is tough for me as is a new head coach to watch guys work hard, extremely hard, in the offseason and care about the team and play hard and do everything that we’ve asked them to do and then not get a chance to experience the NFL season this year,” Vrabel said.
Tennessee already has All-Pro Kevin Byard at the other safety spot, with Logan Ryan, Adoree Jackson and free agent signee Malcolm Butler at cornerback for a unit that has its sights set on being the NFL’s best secondary. Ryan said at least the Titans have time to adjust.
”It tests our depth, but some of that’s been well-documented that we feel like we have good depth so it’s going to show it …,” Ryan said. ”This didn’t happen the day before the first game. It’s giving us time to work out the kinks. They might move me around a little bit and allow me to do more things in the secondary if need be and get more of our guys on the field.”
AP Pro Football Writer Rob Maaddi contributed to this report.
Jimmy Garoppolo showed what he can do in coach Kyle Shanahan's offense even before he fully understood it in an impressive five-game cameo at the end of last season.
With an entire offseason to learn the foundation of the San Francisco 49ers' scheme and build chemistry with his receivers and offensive line Youth Trent Brown Jersey , he should only be better in his first full season as an NFL starter in 2018.
Whether that translates into even more prolific numbers is a different question.
"I don't know how much of a jump you're going to see," Shanahan said Wednesday before the team's final minicamp practice of the offseason. "When you talk about expectations, I don't know how you're going to live up to that. He did very good last year. If we had 400 yards a game, does that mean we need to have 600 the first five games to improve? I don't know what the numbers will be, but we will be a better offense."
The numbers were quite good after Garoppolo took over as the Niners won their final five games of the season after a 1-10 start under Shanahan. San Francisco scored on an NFL-best 56.6 percent of their drives after Garoppolo took over as starter and ranked in the top five in the league in scoring offense (28.8 points per game), yards per play (6.1) and yards per game (409.6).
That all came with Garoppolo being force fed a game plan each week in an offense he barely knew. This offseason he has been able to start from scratch and learn the whys behind the scheme, which should make him even better once the season starts.
"I think I've come a long way, especially from last season when I was just cramming everything in," Garoppolo said. "But there's still a long way to go developing that chemistry between me and the skill positions and the o-line. It's a work in progress."
That was evident Tuesday when issues with a new cadence led to several false starts or players not getting off on time early in practice. That led Garoppolo to keep a lot of the offense on the field after practice for some extra work to make sure those issues don't come up again.
Shanahan said he was pleased to see his players take the initiative to fix those issues without any prodding from the coaches.
"It wasn't any fun," Garoppolo said. "When that goes wrong, it just screws up the rest of the play. First and foremost, we have to get that corrected."
While the cadence issue was a one-time issue, a major focus this offseason for Garoppolo and the offense has been on becoming more efficient in the red zone.
San Francisco moved the ball with ease the last five weeks of the season but the offense too often had to settle for field goals. The Niners converted less than half of their chances inside the opponent's 20-yard line into touchdowns.
The team has excelled in that area in practice this offseason and Garoppolo hopes that carries over to the games.
While Garoppolo is the headliner, there has been significant change in the one-plus year since Shanahan and general manager John Lynch took over a struggling franchise.
Shanahan took over a two-win team that had gone through three coaches in the previous three years and now has it in position to be a legitimate contender in the power-packed NFC.
"We've put a lot of work in a year, we've gone through a lot of things, we've changed the roster over a ton," Shanahan said. "We've been better as a coaching staff. We go through this every single day. What I'm happy about as I look over our players and our coaches is we're better. We're deeper. We're faster. We move together, our 11 guys, better together. That should happen. We've done it longer. We've had more time to build the personnel."
NOTES: WR Marquise Goodwin won the Pro Football Writers of America George Halas Award, given to the person who overcomes the most adversity to succeed. Goodwin caught an 83-yard touchdown pass in a Week 10 win against the Giants just hours after he and his wife, Morgan, lost their infant son due to complications which led to a premature delivery. ... Third-round LB Fred Warner signed his rookie contract. ... Former 49ers LB Larry Grant has been named the team's 2018 Nunn-Wooten Scouting Fellow.
Trades happen throughout the NHL all the time. There are some that have fans raising their eyebrows http://www.49ersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-fred-warner-jersey , wondering how the player traded will fare on a different team. No one can ever know how fast a player will find chemistry with new teammates. Thankfully, for some players, they find the stats they were reaching for their entire career after being traded. Other players find themselves losing their scoring touch to the point where the team that they are now playing for regrets their decision.
A trade requires a team to make many decisions that influence their foreseeable future, and whether a player fits or not. Case聽in point, Taylor Hall being traded to New Jersey from Edmonton for defenseman Adam Larsson. It was clear that the Oilers needed help on the blue line, but Hall was shocked by the trade, thinking he was a pivotal part of Edmonton's future. Oilers General Manager Peter Chiarelli was focusing on a bigger picture and wanted to save up some salary cap to sign some free agents.
The Hall trade is just one example that will be listed in this article. Dating back to the 2005-06 season, many trades have taking place throughout the NHL. Aside from Vegas, who has just completed their first season in the league, every team has had a trade alter the dynamic of the team. Some were for the better, others for the worse. This list will showcase 10 players who became All-Stars since being traded, and five who lost their touch when it came to racking their own personal stats.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Ask the men he coaches what makes Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner tick Chris Wormley Jersey , and you get a variation of the same response.
He’s a dude. A good dude. But just a dude.
“There’s nothing special or outrageous or eccentric,” guard David DeCastro said.
And that might be exactly what the Steelers need after six highly productive if occasionally volatile seasons with Todd Haley calling the plays.
On the surface Fichtner and his predecessor could not be more different. The sometimes combustible Haley wasn’t one to hide his emotions and followed a personal mandate to wear shorts at every practice regardless of the weather.
Fichtner, promoted from quarterbacks coach to coordinator in January after the team allowed Haley’s contract to expire, takes a decidedly more even-keel approach.
The most recent time he remembers truly losing it on the field came during the 2010 season opener against Atlanta.
When Rashard Mendenhall crossed the goal line for a walk-off win, Fichtner leapt into the air and jokes he may have pulled his hamstring in the process.
To be fair, the 54-year-old Fichtner can still move a little bit. He finished practice on Thursday by playfully dropping into coverage as a safety while the first-team offense went through a quick walkthrough after the defense left the field.
Unlike Haley, Fichtner makes more conservative choices, at least sartorially.
While Haley showed off his calves, Fichtner is usually in sweats, a long-sleeved undershirt and a pullover as he was on Wednesday even as temperatures soared into the 90s.
The thing is, Fichtner didn’t really look uncomfortable. Probably a good thing considering the stakes of his new gig.
He takes over one of the league’s most star-laden offenses, even with All-Pro running back Le’Veon Bell out while waiting … and waiting … to sign his one-year franchise tender. All Fichtner has to do is design an attack that will produce a fifth consecutive playoff berth and — the team hopes — its first trip to the Super Bowl in eight years.
Asked if he’s ready to be second-guessed every Monday and Fichtner smiled.
“Sure, absolutely, comes with it,” Fichtner said. “I get it.”
He’s been there before, just not for a while. He’s a football lifer. His father Ross was a quarterback at Purdue then spent eight seasons as a cornerback for the Cleveland Browns in the 1960s. Randy didn’t wander far afield.
He played briefly at Purdue then went immediately into coaching after graduation. His nomadic climb up the ladder included four years at Arkansas State from 1997-2000 Authentic Pekka Rinne Jersey Kids , where he crossed paths with a young defensive backs coach whose energy and edge Fichtner couldn’t help but be drawn to.
So when that young defensive backs coach called in 2006 and offered Fichtner a job in the NFL, Fichtner figured there was no way he could tell Mike Tomlin no.
More than a decade later, the partnership is still going and is one of the main reasons Fichtner stayed in Pittsburgh rather than chase other opportunities.
“That’s just, my relationship with Mike,” Fichtner said. “I told him when I came, I told him ‘I’m coming for you’ and since I’ve been here, I’m all-in for the (owners) and the organization also. Makes it a couple of reasons. I’ve always felt I’ve been content with jobs that I’ve had and I’m content and just do the best I can.”
Having some of the most talented players at his disposal doesn’t hurt either. Fichtner has developed a strong bond with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who figures to given plenty of leeway to run the no-huddle as he pleases when the Steelers open the season in Cleveland on Sunday.
“I’m sure he’s quite capable of making the right decisions at the right time,” Fichtner said. “He’s done it in the past and I don’t see it being any different in the future.”
Still, even Roethlisberger is a bit curious how different things will be with Fichtner’s voice coming through his helmet instead of Haley’s.
“I don’t know,” Roethlisberger said. “We’ll see. That’s the question everyone wants to find out. What’s Randy’s personality? What are his tendencies? We’ll all find out on Sunday I guess.”
Josh Dobbs, who credited Fichtner’s tutelage for helping him supplant Landry Jones as Roethlisberger’s primary backup coming out of training camp, is curious to see how willing Fichtner will be to let the creativity he shows during meetings come to life on the field.
Yet for all of Fichtner’s “just one of the guys” persona, Dobbs allows there’s a fire underneath even if it’s imperceptible on the practice field. Just start watching film with Fichtner. The joking stops, at least briefly, replaced by Fichtner’s inner perfectionist.
The self-described “old dude” understands he’s an unknown quantity outside the locker room. He’s not inside the locker room. His role has changed. His approach has not.
“He’s probably wanted to be an OC for a long time,” Dobbs said. “So to get to that position where he’s the guy calling plays and game-planning and to see him not change is really good. He’s the same guy, bringing energy. … I think that shows in how he attacks the field.”
NOTES: Tomlin said he does no
Anyone who pays attention to the NFL knows that Tom Brady is 41 as he heads into the season. He’s hardly the only geezer, in football terms, still on the field or hoping to be when the season kicks off next month.
Indeed, Brady isn’t even close to the oldest guy suiting up these days. His former teammate in New England, Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri, is 45.
There are plenty of players currently on rosters who are older than Rams coach Sean McVay, now 32. Hey, that’s in the midst of the prime competing years for most positions.
Here’s a look at six 30-somethings who could be impactful this season. We’re steering away from the kickers, who tend to age a lot more slowly than anyone else.
Drew Brees, Saints quarterback — There are no signs of Brees slowing down at age 39. He’s in the perfect offense, which he knows so well he could probably run it from a rocking chair.
Helping mightily are skill position players such as Alvin Kamara, Mark Ingram when he returns from a four-game suspension for violating the NFL policy on performance-enhancing substances, Michael Thomas Jake DeBrusk Jersey , Ted Ginn Jr., and Benjamin Watson (37 himself).
Also aiding Brees: A defense can’t throw anything at him he hasn’t seen — again and again.
“I understand that I don’t have a whole lot of time left,” says Brees, who’ll be 40 in January and whose contract expires after the 2019 season. “You’ve got to work and have high expectations and sacrifice and do maybe even more now than I ever have.”
Andrew Whitworth, Rams left tackle — Whitworth was a stud for Cincinnati for 11 seasons, but the Bengals must have believed he was through in 2016 because they let him walk as a free agent. Now 36, he comes off an All-Pro first year in which the Rams were dominant on offense.
Despite all those years in the trenches, Whitworth looks as sharp and powerful as the day he came out of LSU in 2006. He has a shot at his first Super Bowl with a supremely talented roster around him.
Julius Peppers, Panthers defensive end — Like Brees, Peppers will someday wind up with a bust in Canton, Ohio. At 38, he’s no longer an every-down player, but he’s an every-day leader.
Peppers can provide ample force as a pass rusher if he’s mixed in efficiently, something Carolina is quite good at with its D-line. That’s essential in the league’s best division, facing Brees and Matt Ryan twice a season.
Peppers was placed on the physically unable to perform list in July, but the Panthers don’t seem too concerned about his availability — or production — when the games count.
Terence Newman Youth Ryan Shazier Jersey , Vikings cornerback — Now this is really impressive: a DB who will be 40 before the season kicks off, yet can handle the speed- and agility-based duties in an increasingly fast-paced game.
Newman enters his 16th pro season — he was the fifth overall selection by Dallas in 2003 — and this will be his fourth year in Minnesota. The league’s oldest defensive player likely will see some time at safety on a game-changing defense. To see any time at all in an NFL secondary at such an advanced age is stunning.
“You have to figure out something else that you want to do, once you get to my age,” Newman said when he re-signed in May. “I think this will be my last year. No matter what happens, this will be it for me.”
Vernon Davis, Redskins tight end — Once among the elite tight ends of the NFL, Davis remains at 34 enough of a force on the field and a positive influence off it to be a factor for Washington. He averaged 15.1 yards a reception for the Redskins a year ago, third best in his distinguished career.
Alex Smith often targets his tight end — Travis Kelce became a star catching Smith’s passes in Kansas City — and Davis knows just about everything about playing the position.
L.P. Ladouceur, Cowboys long snapper — At 37, this is his 14th year with the Cowboys; how many fans would recognize the Canadian in Big D without his jersey on?
Long snappers always are unsung, fitting the cliche of only getting noticed when they mess up. Ladouceur almost never does, and he’s now the longest-tenured Cowboy with Jason Witten retired.
Evgeny Kuznetsov’s breakway goal 5:27 into overtime gave the Washington Capitals a 2-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 6 on Monday night Anders Bjork Jersey , and a berth in the Eastern Conference finals for the first time in 20 years.
Kuznetsov took a lead pass from Alexander Ovechkin and tucked the puck by Matt Murray to end Pittsburgh’s two-year reign as Stanley Cup champions and propel the Capitals into the NHL’s final four for just the third time in franchise history.
Braden Holtby stopped 21 shots for the Capitals, who will face Tampa Bay in the Eastern Conference finals. Alex Chiasson scored his first playoff goal in four years during a taut, tight contest through regulation.
Kris Letang scored for the Penguins and Murray finished with 28 saves but couldn’t close his legs fast enough to stop Kuznetsov’s forehand flick from in close as Pittsburgh’s bid at becoming the first team in 35 years to win three consecutive Cups came to an abrupt end.
PREDATORS 4, JETS 0
WINNIPEG Jaylon Smith Jersey , Manitoba (AP) – Filip Forsberg had two goals and an assist, Pekka Rinne stopped 34 shots for his second shutout of the playoffs, and Nashville forced a decisive Game 7 in its Western Conference semifinal series with Winnipeg.
Game 7 is Thursday at Nashville, Tennessee, with the winner advancing to face the expansion Vegas Golden Knights in the Western Conference final.
This back-and-forth series has yet to see a team win consecutive games.
SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS (6-10)
UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENTS: RB Carlos Hyde; Ss Eric Reid and Antone Exum, DE Aaron Lynch; DLs Chris Jones Womens Deryk Engelland Jersey , Tank Carradine and Leger Douzable; LB Brock Coyle; G Brandon Fusco; CBs Leon Hall, Dontae Johnson, and Asa Jackson; WR Louis Murphy; TE Logan Paulsen; C Tim Barnes.
RESTRICTED FREE AGENTS: None.
NEEDS: 49ers answered biggest question last month when they signed quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to $137.5 million contract after he led them to five straight wins following midseason trade with New England. Then San Francisco got a head start on free agency by signing former nemesis Richard Sherman to upgrade at cornerback following his release from Seattle. The task this spring will be to get Garoppolo help and improve the pass rush on defense. San Francisco could use big target at either receiver or tight end to help in red zone, as well as improvement on interior of offensive line. Biggest question on offense comes at running back where San Francisco must decide whether to try to re-sign Hyde or look for someone else as lead back.
AVAILABLE SALARY CAP SPACE (approximately): $64 million.
Cornerback Vontae Davis says the opportunity to play in a talented young secondary is what eventually drew him to sign a one-year contract with the Buffalo Bills.
Davis also says he’s put behind last year’s dispute with former Colts coach Chuck Pagano that eventually led to Indianapolis cutting him in early November. The 29-year-old Davis called it ”one of those unfortunate situations http://www.indianapoliscoltsteamonline.com/al-woods-jersey ,” and is focused on moving forward.
He spoke during a conference call Friday, three days after signing with Buffalo.
Davis referred to the Bills as being ”a perfect fit.” The nine-year NFL veteran called it ”intriguing” to join a secondary made up of safeties Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer and cornerback Tre’Davious White, a Defensive Rookie of the Year contender last season.
Hyde and Poyer had five interceptions each, and White four as Buffalo finished tied for sixth in the NFL with 18 interceptions.
Davis’ five-plus-season tenure with the Colts ended after he publicly complained about how the team handled his demotion to a backup role. Pagano said the decision wasn’t injury related. Davis disputed that by saying his drop in production was directly linked to a groin tear that occurred during a preseason game.
Davis elected to have surgery after he was cut.
He says he was cleared to resume working out two weeks ago, but isn’t sure if he’ll be able to fully participate once the Bills start practicing in May.
The Bills have a need at cornerback with starter E.J. Gaines and backups Leonard Johnson and Shareece Wright all set to become free agents in two weeks.
Davis entered the NFL as a first-round pick of the Miami Dolphins before being traded to the Colts for a second-round pick in 2012. He has started 113 of 120 games, with 342 tackles, 97 passes defensed and 22 interceptions.
After a frenetic non-waiver trade deadline Youth John Moore Jersey , several players saw their fantasy values improve with a change of address.
ROBERTO OSUNA, RP, Astros: The most controversial deadline move saw the World Series champs acquire the hard-throwing Osuna, whose domestic violence suspension ends on Sunday. The Astros will ease him into the closer role but once Osuna and his near triple-digit heat gets adjusted to his new locale, he will be a near lights-out presence. Osuna saved nine of his 10 opportunities before his suspension and will benefit from a better defense than he had with the Blue Jays.
TOMMY PHAM, OF, Rays: He will see a more prominent role in the Tampa Bay lineup Authentic Patrick Mahomes Jersey , a place that could perk up his bat. Pham batted cleanup in his Rays debut on Wednesday and is still on pace to hit 20 homers and steal 15 bases despite hitting .246 with a .395 slugging percentage.
KEVIN GAUSMAN, P, Braves: Escaping the presence of American League East lineups makes Gausman a winner. His 4.43 ERA while pitching for a horrid Orioles team will see a downturn now that he is pitching in meaningful games and won’t have to contend with a designated hitter. Gausman will also see a climb in his strikeouts per nine innings rate, as his 7.55 K/9 gets a free-swinging pitcher rather than a slugger.
WILSON RAMOS, C, Phillies: Once his hamstring heals, Ramos’ numbers will see a hike as he will be in a more hitter-friendly ballpark in Citizens Bank Park. He was hammering pitchers prior to his injury Trey Burton Jersey , batting .333 with three homers and 10 RBIs in 39 July at-bats. Ramos’ presence will add spark to a Philadelphia offense that was a mere 20th in the majors with 468 runs scored going into Thursday’s games.
ADAM DUVALL, OF, Braves: Atlanta will welcome the explosion of Duvall’s bat, as the Braves are 20th in the majors with just 114 homers. Duvall is hitting only .205 this season but is one of the streakiest hitters in the game. The Braves are banking that Duvall’s presence will take some pressure off rookie Ronald Acuna Jr. while also forcing pitchers to avoid challenging first baseman Freddie Freeman.
RB WATCH IN D.C.
Redskins rookie running back Derrius Guice will see his fantasy value increase upon news that running back Chris Thompson won’t be at 100 percent until midseason. Guice has received praise for his work both on the field and in the meeting room while also continuing to show pass-catching skills he did not use frequently at LSU.
Right now, Guice is a mid-tier RB2, yet has the room to move up the positional rankings once he gets on the field. He’s more valuable in non-PPR formats but considering how new Redskins quarterback Alex Smith has a track record of utilizing running backs in the passing game, Guice will have some sleeper value in PPR leagues.
FROM RUSSIA WITH GLOVE
The NHL season is more than two months away yet it’s not too soon to ponder potential 2018-19 sleepers. Stars right wing Valeri Nichushkin is a name to keep in mind after he re-signed with Dallas after spending the past two seasons in Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League.
Nichushkin has the chance to give the Stars an imposing wing duo with Tyler Seguin or could be paired up with Alexander Radulov Womens Jake Gardiner Jersey , who scored 72 points last season. Scoring won’t be a problem with Dallas, especially with Nichushskin and his potential to add 55-60 points to the lineup.
Hall of Fame quarterback Warren Moon remains absent from Seahawks radio broadcasts as he continues his leave of absence following a sexual harassment lawsuit filed against him last December.
Moon issued denials regarding the subject last year but remains away from the team. He will be replaced by former fullback Mack Strong and defensive back Jordan Babineaux for preseason games and former linebacker Dave Wyman for regular season contests in the interim Womens Kris Russell Jersey , per a team release on broadcast coverage for the upcoming season.
Moon was accused of sexual battery by his former executive assistant and claimed that he drugged her during a work trip to Mexico. Additionally, she claimed that Moon forced her to share a hotel room and bed with him while the two were on business trips together Youth Ben Roethlisberger Jersey , which he admitted had occurred but he downplayed the significance.
Moon has served as the team’s color analyst on radio broadcasts since 2004.

Kirk Cousins pushed himself so hard last summer that by Washington's second regular-season game, he felt as if his body and mind aged 10 extra weeks.
This time, even though he's in a new place in Minnesota, his goal for the summer break is to make it a little less intense.
"I had treated July and August like it was game day Darrell Green Jersey ," Cousins said, reflecting on his 2017 preparation with the Redskins.
"You have to pace yourself a little bit. Because I feel a little behind the 8-ball and am learning the offense, I do need to be in it every day, but there also needs to be a healthy balance of getting away, catching your breath and getting a change of scenery, knowing that when we come back at the end of July we still have six more weeks" before the opener.
Cousins and his ability to adapt to the Vikings have been squarely in the spotlight since he signed his unprecedented $84 million fully guaranteed three-year contract three months ago, making himself the fulcrum of this franchise that's still seeking its first Super Bowl trophy.
There have been some rough stretches, such as when he threw two interceptions during a red zone drill on Wednesday Youth Dion Phaneuf Jersey , and the defense appears predictably ahead of the offense at this stage of the 2018 team-building.
The practice time open to reporters this spring, though, has not been without sharpness or rhythm considering there's a new quarterback trying to learn it along with everyone else.
"It's a bit like drinking through a fire hose right now," Cousins said.
When he's not spending time with his wife and infant son or otherwise soaking up the vacation time from practice, Cousins will have his iPad close by as he meticulously reviews his performance in organized team activities and minicamp running the plays designed by offensive coordinator John DeFilippo.
"I was pleasantly surprised with the rapport. There was a fair amount of carry-over from what I've done in the past, so that was a good first step," Cousins said. "Whenever I did suggest something, he's just been a great listener. He's been a great communicator Youth Luke Kuechly Jersey , and I love his passion for the game."
Coach Mike Zimmer sounded more than pleased by the hire he made, his third offensive coordinator in the past three seasons.
"It's really been seamless," Zimmer said.
DeFilippo offered a similar assessment of his supervision of Cousins, describing his work against the defense in a blitz-heavy portion of practice on Wednesday.
"He did some subtle things that tell you he's really understanding the little intricacies of what we're trying to accomplish," DeFilippo said.
Cousins, of course, is not the only one with summer homework. Mike Remmers spent most of the time in the spring at right guard, with Rashod Hill taking his place at right tackle Victor Mete Jersey , so there's still room for him to learn a new spot.
Terence Newman was playing some safety this week next to Harrison Smith, with Andrew Sendejo held out because of an undisclosed injury. Then there's rookie cornerback Mike Hughes, who has made a strong first impression but must continue his development at the nickel spot by studying the nuances of a difficult position.
So the break has begun, with rookies scheduled to report for training camp on July 24 and the rest of the squad due in three days later.
"Pretty much the same thing I always tell them this time of year: Keep working, make sure they come back in not just jogging shape but in shape to plant, drive and break and get in and out of stances and things like that," Zimmer said. "Make sure the good citizens take care of each other."
The Oakland Raiders have signed free agent linebacker Kyle Wilber to provide depth and special teams help.
The Raiders also announced Saturday they signed defensive lineman Tank Carradine Tom Kuhnhackl Jersey , who revealed his decision to join the Raiders a day earlier.
Wilber played 89 games in six seasons with Dallas, recording 104 tackles, 3陆 sacks, one pass defensed, two forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries.
He played all 16 games last season with four tackles on defense and 10 on special teams under coordinator Rich Bisaccia Victor Hedman Jersey , who now holds the same job in Oakland.
Carradine played 44 games over four seasons with the 49ers, getting 5陆 sacks.
NEW ORLEANS (AP) Disgraced former NFL star Darren Sharper has renewed efforts to get a reduction in his 18-year federal sentence for drugging and raping women.
Lawyers for Sharper, who lost an earlier appeal, filed a 50-page memorandum this week in U.S. District Court in New Orleans, arguing he was not adequately advised by his trial lawyers on the consequences of his 2016 guilty plea. The memorandum also contends the trial judge and the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals made errors.
Sharper’s case arose from allegations that he drugged and sexually assaulted as many as 16 women in four states.
He had retired from the league in 2011 and was working as an NFL network analyst when women in several cities began telling police they had blacked out while drinking with him and woke up groggy to discover they had been sexually assaulted.
After he was arrested and jailed in Los Angeles in 2014 Womens Odell Beckham Jr Jersey , he initially fought charges. As allegations and criminal charges mounted, a ”global” plea deal involving the federal court in New Orleans and state courts in Louisiana, Arizona, California and Nevada was announced. The deal was expected to result in Sharper spending about nine years in prison.
But U.S. District Judge Jane Triche Milazzo in New Orleans rejected the sentence as too light. She gave Sharper the option of withdrawing his plea. After he decided to maintain the plea, Milazzo sentenced him to 18 years and four months.
Sharper’s 14-year NFL career included stints with the Green Bay Packers Nate Schmidt Jersey , the Minnesota Vikings and, finally, in New Orleans with the Saints, where he was part of the team that won the 2010 Super Bowl.
The motion filed Wednesday said Sharper deserves more credit in sentencing for his cooperation with prosecutors in his own case that that of two Louisiana co-defendants.
”Mr. Sharper intended, and still intends Muhammad Wilkerson Jersey , to accept responsibility for his behavior,” Sharper’s lawyers said in court filings. ”He does not seek to escape blame in this matter.”
Milazzo issued an order posted Thursday that gives prosecutors until Aug. 27 to respond.
With three games left in the regular season, the Blue Jackets (44-29-6) are close to clinching a spot in the postseason for the second consecutive year. A win at Nationwide Arena over the Detroit Red Wings (30-38-11) would secure a place in the field.
In the tightly bunched Metropolitan Division, the Blue Jackets and Philadelphia Flyers share third place with 94 points. Both have three games left.
The New Jersey Devils are lurking one point behind in the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. The Florida Panthers still have faint hopes but need basically a miracle to get in.
“I think everyone is aware of the situation as far as the standings go,” Blue Jackets defenseman Ian Cole said, “but you try not to get too wrapped up in it. You want to concentrate on what the Columbus Blue Jackets have to do out on the ice. Having that mindset has led to some success for us.”
The Blue Jackets and Flyers still have a chance to move up in the standings. Both enter Tuesday’s games just two points behind Cole’s former team, the Pittsburgh Penguins, for second place in the Metro.
With the Penguins idle and the Flyers playing the New York Islanders on Tuesday, the evening could end with a three-way tie for second. Then, two nights later, the Blue Jackets play host to the Penguins.
Finishing second in the division would mean home-ice advantage in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and so there’s still plenty to play for this week. The Blue Jackets close the season on Saturday at Nashville.
But Columbus coach John Tortorella refused to talk about the scenarios, repeatedly deflecting questions about the playoffs.
“I’m pleased that we still have an opportunity to play another game and we’re still in the hunt,” Tortorella said. “Get ready for Detroit. I’m happy that game means something.”
Asked again about the NHL postseason, Tortorella answered, “I’m glad tomorrow is an important game for us.”
The Blue Jackets practiced Monday at less than full strength.
“We just have a little bit of sickness running through the team,” Tortorella said.
One player he’s definitely ruling out Tuesday is defenseman Markus Nutivaara Womens Eric Berry Jersey , who is day to day after suffering an upper-body injury in the Blue Jackets’ 5-4 overtime loss on Saturday in Vancouver to the Canucks.
Defenseman Jack Jackson, a healthy scratch the past few games, could be a candidate to replace Nutivaara. Sergei Bobrovsky also is expected back in goal after sitting out Saturday in Vancouver.
The Blue Jackets finished March with a 12-3-1 record, going 12-1-1 in their past 14 games. They closed the month by rallying from a three-goal deficit in the final minutes against the Canucks to force overtime and pick up a point in the standings.
Cam Atkinson scored one of the goals in the comeback, giving him a seven-game points streak, and Artemi Panarin had four assists in the game, giving him 25 points in March.
“It’s a great lesson for our team that it’s never over, especially in this league here right now,” Tortorella said. “There’s so many mistakes made that you never know what’s going to happen.”
The Red Wings aren’t going to the playoffs, but they’re not going down without a respectable fight. They bring a three-game winning streak to Columbus after beating the Ottawa Senators 2-0 on Sunday.
“I’ve asked these guys for a couple weeks now to go out and compete like crazy,” Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said, according to the Detroit Free Press. “They’ve continued to do that. And even when it was tough, they kept competing like crazy. I’m not looking them in the eyes and not putting together a good lineup.”
At the same time, winning could actually hurt the Red Wings’ prospects of getting a high pick in this summer’s draft.
“I understand the importance of trying to get that first pick. I’m not naive to that,” Blashill said. “But would you want athletes that didn’t play to win? That would be crazy. We’re going to play to win tomorrow night. We’re going to do everything we can and we’ll see what the result is.”
Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard, who posted his first shutout of the season on Sunday Antonio Morrison Jersey , agreed with his coach.
“We still want to go out there, we still want to perform, we still want to play our best, we still, you know, want to win games,” Howard said.
Jermaine Kearse was far from pleased last week when he heard the details of the NFL’s new policy on the national anthem.
The veteran wide receiver and his New York Jets teammates couldn’t be happier, though, to have the full support of acting owner Christopher Johnson.
”For me personally, I’m very appreciative of him,” Kearse said after practice Tuesday. ”I think he kind of gets it.”
NFL owners voted last Wednesday to require players to stand for the anthem or stay in the locker room. Teams will be fined if players don’t stand. Some players have been kneeling during the playing of ”The Star-Spangled Banner” before games the last two seasons to protest police brutality and racial inequality.
”Honestly, I’m disappointed,” Kearse said. ”I think they’re kind of missing the point. For us as a team, I think if you’ve paid attention, nobody on our team kneeled, but that doesn’t mean we don’t support the causes of why people are kneeling.”
Johnson said shortly after the league announced the policy that he will not punish his players for any peaceful protests – and would pay any potential fines incurred by the team as a result of his players’ actions.
”To me http://www.washingtonredskinsteamonline.com/d.j.-swearinger-jersey , honestly, the conversation about whether players are kneeling or not, I felt like that conversation was dying and it didn’t get brought up until they decided to make the rules,” Kearse said. ”So, I think we’re kind of getting away from the actual cause. I think we’re starting to focus on the kneeling part rather than the cause behind it.
”I wish they would be more like Chris, to be quite honest, and support the players and actively be involved and have those conversations with their players.”
Added coach Todd Bowles: ”It’s always nice to have the owner have your back. It’s about the issues for us. We didn’t have a problem a year ago. We’ll continue to talk as a group, as a team and as an organization, and go forward from there.”
Left tackle Kelvin Beachum echoed Kearse’s sentiments about the NFL’s new policy. Beachum and quarterback Josh McCown are part of the Players Coalition, an advocacy group of NFL players that has had discussions with league owners on social matters.
”It is disappointing, but it is what it is at this point,” Beachum said. ”We’ve been talking about this issue for a number of years and the league finally made a decision. We’re going to still continue to do the work. Our owner supports us in doing that work and he’s with us as we’re doing that work. So we’re not going to keep talking this game and keep talking about the anthem. We’re actually going to do something about it and go find a solution.”
Johnson met with the entire team last week and explained to the players why he voted in favor of the new NFL rule – only San Francisco’s Jed York abstained – while also assuring them they would not be punished by the team if they did not adhere to the league’s policy.
”He’s very supportive of us,” Kearse said. ”I mean, whether guys choose to or not, he supports our decision – their decision – but like I said, nobody last year kneeled. The fact that he’ll support us any way he can is a very gratifying feeling.”
Johnson took over the day-to-day operations of the team last June from his brother Woody http://www.chicagobearsteamonline.com/devin-hester-jersey , who is serving as the U.S. ambassador to the United Kingdom in President Donald Trump’s administration. Trump frequently has been critical of players who have protested during the anthem, so it would appear a tough spot for the younger Johnson while balancing business, politics and family.
But Christopher Johnson immediately earned his players’ respect last year when he went up to each one in the Jets’ locker room before the team’s home opener against Miami in September and asked if he could stand with them in unity.
Johnson, the players and the coaches stood – arms locked – on the sideline before every remaining game. Several players pointed to the owner’s actions as playing a large role in establishing cohesiveness on a team that stuck together despite a 5-11 record.
But Johnson’s latest stance has become a polarizing issue with some Jets fans and even politicians saying the owner’s support of a player potentially protesting during the anthem is misguided.
”It’s great that he stuck his neck out there,” linebacker Darron Lee said, ”because I know a lot of people feel passionate about that.”
New York Rep. Pete King wrote on Twitter on Saturday that it was ”disgraceful” that Johnson would pay fines for players who would kneel during the anthem. King added that Johnson’s decision was ”encouraging a movement premised on lies vs. police.”
”Would he support all player protests?” King continued. ”Would he pay fines of players giving Nazi salutes or spew racism? It’s time to say goodbye to Jets!”
The Jets have not decided what they will do this year during the national anthem, but Lee said if he had to take ”an educated guess,” he thinks the team will lock arms again. Beachum and Kearse stressed that unity is the top priority with the Jets.
”I think it’s very important that no matter what we do, that we do it together,” Kearse said. ”We’re a locker room with different personalities, different thoughts, so not everybody thinks the same. Whatever we choose to do, if we can do it collectively, http://www.officialusafootballs.com/green-bay-packers
For the second straight year Aaron Lynch Jersey , the Steelers have exercised their prerogative to apply the franchise tag to running back Le'Veon Bell. For the second straight year, Bell has exercised his prerogative to not sign the franchise tag.
So when will Bell sign his one-year, $14.54 million tender? He should consider signing it before the 90-to-53 roster cuts are made on Saturday.
Article 20, Section 4 permits the Steelers to place Bell on roster-exempt status for up to two weeks of the regular season. Section 4(a) specifically requires the Steelers and Bell to agree in writing as to what his compensation will be while on roster-exempt status.
This gives the Steelers license to play hardball with Bell, if they choose to do so. Really, why pay him more than $855,000 per week if he’s not going to play for the first two games, against the Browns and the Chiefs? And the Steelers may be inclined to not let him play the first two weeks of the season Braydon Coburn Jersey , given that it took him a few weeks last year to get up to speed.
Bell can avoid this potential wrinkle by simply signing his tender before the rosters are cut. And the Steelers can avoid that wrinkle and several others by rescinding the tender entirely, something that the Steelers continue to have the right to do until he signs it.
Titans coach Mike Vrabel believes Tennessee's running back duo will be a problem for opponents.
The former linebacker refused to tip his hand when asked how he would defend Derrick Henry and Dion Lewis himself.
"I would have rather not tackled Derrick, and I would have rather not covered Dion" in the open field, said Vrabel, who played 14 years in the NFL.
Vrabel made it clear that how the Titans divvy up the workload between the running backs will depend on how coaches want to attack each opponent. The 2015 Heisman Trophy winner , Henry brings a bruising style while displaying speed in the open field. The 5-foot-8 Lewis is much smaller next to the 6-3 Henry but flits around in open space making defenders miss.
"Man, I thought he was gone that one that he caught, like he was skating Danton Heinen Jersey Kids ," Henry said of his new teammate. "But that's Dion. That's what he does: make people miss. He has quick feet and get him out in space he can be dangerous."
As a first-year head coach, Vrabel and his new offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur have a pair of running backs that together could be the franchise's best duo since Chris Johnson and LenDale White combined for 2,001 yards in 2008. That season the Titans started 10-0 and finished with a league-best 13-3 record. The Titans' top two backs in 2009 combined for 2,287 yards with Johnson getting 2,006 himself.
Henry backed up DeMarco Murray the past two seasons, though he led the Titans with 744 yards rushing last year despite starting only two games. He showed off his speed with a 75-yard touchdown run while also taking a pass 66 yards for another TD.
Coming from Alabama where he left as the school's all-time leading rusher, Henry also has been very much a team player. Looking at Lewis, Henry said he thinks they can be very good together.
"We're two different styles of back like he's quick Ramon Humber Jersey , he has good wiggle," Henry said. "He's good out of the backfield catching the ball and I'm downhill physical so I think we complement each other well."
The Titans signed Lewis to a four-year deal in March after seeing the running back up close in their divisional playoff loss to the Patriots. Lewis ran 15 times for 62 yards and caught nine passes for 79 yards helping New England rout the Titans. For his career, Lewis averages 4.8 yards per carry with 10 TDs rushing, and he has five more TDs averaging 8.1 yards per reception.
Lewis showed off just how elusive he can be in last weekend's 30-14 exhibition loss to Tampa Bay. He caught both passes thrown to him, taking one 16 yards. Marcus Mariota said Lewis makes it easy on quarterbacks with his body language and how the running back executes his routes.
"It causes a lot of problems for the defense," Mariota said. "Anytime you can have an advantage, you got to try exploit that as much as you can. Dion provides that for us, and you see once that guy gets the ball in his hands he's tough to tackle. Any which way that we can find to get him the ball is going to be beneficial for us."
The Titans hope this running back tandem provides a boost in both the run and pass game. Tennessee slumped to 15th last season with 109.7 yards rushing and ranked just 23rd averaging 224.4 yards passing per game.
Lewis knows exactly what he can do once he gets the ball in the open field.
"They brought me here to make plays in space and be the player I am Andre Holmes Jersey , so whenever I get the opportunity to (do) that I just got to show my ability and be dependable," Lewis said.
NOTES: The Titans made some roster moves, agreeing to terms with a trio of linebackers in Jeff Knox, Nyles Morgan and Deontae Skinner. They waived LB Brandon Chubb, LB Davond Dale and OL Matt Diaz.
>The NFL players’ union has filed a non-injury grievance on behalf of free agent safety Eric Reid. The NFLPA cites one team appearing “to have based its decision not to sign a player based on the player’s statement that he would challenge the implementation of a club’s policy prohibiting demonstration” during the national anthem.League policy does not prohibit demonstrating during the anthem. Referring to the labor agreement with the league http://www.dallascowboysteamonline.com/sean-lee-jersey , the union notes that NFL rules supersede any conflicting club rules. The union also says “at least one club owner has asked pre-employment interview questions about a player’s intent to demonstrate. We believe these questions are improper, given league policy.”That team reportedly is the Cincinnati Bengals.Considered one of the top safeties in the league, Reid played out his contract with San Francisco last season. He has been a strong supporter of former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who in 2016 became the first player to kneel during the anthem to protest police brutality and racial inequality.Kaepernick wasn’t signed for the 2017 season following his release in San Francisco. Reid continued the quarterback’s protests.Reid last week filed a collusion claim similar to one filed by Kaepernick last year. The union announced Monday that it filed its grievance and was seeking an arbitrator to hear the case.Kaepernick deposed several league owners and executives, including Commissioner Roger Goodell, in his grievance. Reid is using the same attorneys as Kaepernick. When NFL owners met in March Solomon Thomas Jersey , they didn’t hold lengthy discussions on anthem protocol. But they are expected to do so at their spring meetings in Atlanta on May 21-22.In March, Goodell was asked about Reid, one of the better players at his position in the NFL, not having a job.“I’ve said this repeatedly to you: The 32 teams make individual decisions on the players who are going to best help their franchises,” Goodell said. “Those are decisions they have to make. They do that every day in the best interest of winning. Teams make those decisions. I’m not directly involved with that.”Last month, Kaepernick praised Reid for continuing to make a stand for social justice when the quarterback was presented an Amnesty International award in Amsterdam.“Eric introducing me for this prestigious award brings me great joy Doug Williams Jersey ,” Kaepernick said. “But I am also pained by the fact that his taking a knee, and demonstrating courage to protect the rights of black and brown people in America, has also led to his ostracization from the NFL when he is widely recognized as one of the best competitors in the game and in the prime of his career.” Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis says the 2018 season will be his last.
Davis confirmed his decision during an appearance on NFL Network on Friday. While the Panthers didn’t make an official announcement, the team posted a picture of Davis on its Twitter page with the word ”Respect.”
Davis said he made his decision when the team signed him to a contract extension through 2018. He said he had been seeking an extension through 2019.
Davis, 34, was Carolina’s first-round draft pick in 2005 and has spent his entire career with the Panthers. He’s seventh in team history with 13 career interceptions and eighth with 28 sacks.
In 2014, Davis was named the league’s Walter Payton Man of the Year. Sandwiched around that honor were All-Pro honors in 2013 and 2015. During the last six seasons, Davis has missed just three games despite the last of three ACL repairs.
ENGLEWOOD Authentic Daniel Sedin Jersey , Colo. (AP) — Von Miller said he’s unaffected by the new NFL rule prohibiting defenders from landing on top of quarterbacks, requiring them instead to shift his weight to the side to avoid a flag.
“None of the rule changes affect my game. I don’t really tackle quarterbacks with all my weight anyway. With all 185 pounds? No, I wouldn’t treat a quarterback like that,” said Miller, who’s actually 250.
“I like going for the ball. If you’ve seen me play over the years, I’m not really (going to) lower the head or try to injure a quarterback,” Miller said. “The most I’ll do is fake handshake.”
That move cost Miller a personal foul at key moment last year and led to a loss at Buffalo.
Miller said he has no issue with the league’s new helmet rule that’s causing so much consternation at training camps this summer as teams wonder what all will constitute a foul.
Broncos coach Vance Joseph said the new rules designed to protect players will affect the offense more than the defense because defenders have been taught for years to see what they’re hitting whereas, say, running backs naturally duck their heads and linemen bang helmets all the time.
Defenders Youth Derek Grant Jersey , though, will get flagged for crushing quarterbacks if they don’t break their fall by turning to the side to avoid landing on top of the passer.
An example of the hit that’s now prohibited is the one Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr put on Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers in Week 6 last year that broke Rodgers’ collarbone.
The rule now requires defenders to “strive to wrap up the passer with the defensive player’s arms and not land on the passer with all or most of his body weight.”
Line judge Julian Mapp was among the officials who visited the Broncos this weekend to discuss the rule changes. Asked how difficult it would be to determine whether a pass rusher has put more than half his body weight on a quarterback, Mapp said, “I’m a line judge but talking to some of our referees, what we’re looking at is that — I’m not a University of Florida fan or anything — but we’re looking for what we call a ‘Gator Roll.’ We want you to take your weight off of the quarterback.
“Also, to guys, when they tackle their quarterback and you see their hands in the air like this,” he said, spreading his arms out like an airplane Luke Schenn Jersey Kids , “that does not take them off. A lot of the time they think, ‘Well my hands weren’t on them.’ But it’s the body weight. So, basically they’re looking for some type of roll, some type of (move where) you’re trying to keep all of your body weight off of the quarterback.”
Miller said the changes won’t affect him at all.
“I’ve been good when it comes to all of those rules,” Miller said. “I respect the game. I know we need to keep our quarterbacks healthy. Those guys make football what it is, so we’ve got to take care of those guys.
“They’ve put in rules to take care of all the players, as well. So, I’m good with all the rule changes.”
LAST YEAR: Titans swept Jacksonville but missed AFC South title after losing three straight in December. Winning first postseason game in 14 years with amazing comeback in Kansas City didn't save coach Mike Mularkey, not when he stuck with OC Terry Robiskie following ugly rout in New England.
IMPORTANT ADDITIONS: First-time head coach Mike Vrabel, defensive coordinator Dean Pees, offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur, CB Malcolm Butler, RB Dion Lewis, QB Blaine Gabbert, LB Rashaan Evans, LB Harold Landry.
IMPORTANT LOSSES: DC Dick LeBeau Authentic Jaccob Slavin Jersey , RB DeMarco Murray, WR Eric Decker, LB Erik Walden, S Da'Norris Searcy, QB Matt Cassel.
CAMP NEEDS: Sign Pro Bowl LT Taylor Lewan to contract extension. Lewan stayed away from mandatory minicamp to make clear he wants new deal instead of fifth-year option at $9.3 million. QB Marcus Mariota mastering another offense with third head coach. Develop WR Corey Davis and rest of young receiving corps.
EXPECTATIONS: For so long, Vrabel was seen as future coaching star, and former Patriots linebacker gets no honeymoon period with franchise coming off consecutive 9-7 seasons. Mariota is going into fourth season and GM Jon Robinson has assembled this franchise's most talented roster in decade, leaving division title and long playoff run as Titans' next step.
